Yeah she was a Ken Thomas wagon, we bought it from PM commercials, after contacting ken thomas we found out the history of the vehicle we also purchased the trailer from them.
The R114 380 is a Ex Eddie stobart lorry, we bought that a few years ago up near Carlisle and thats in R I Stamper a cattle haulier’s colours. That vehicle was sold just last week to a farmer from Hereford.
hello pete 359.
the load is a finlay screen that i picked up from a new school that is being built at williamstown rhondda, john the other low loader driver dropped it there a couple of weeks ago and it was never used.it is now in our yard and really not sure where it may end up.it is not very heavy but it is bulky we opened the trailer two metres to accomodate it,i will forward some shots shortly of a cat 385 that i will be moving from our yard to grantham in the next couple of days.

How about a photo of your Pete with one of these loaded trailers? Perhaps Walters might let it pull a load? Why not do it for Children in need? Surely the guys on here would buy a print for a few quid?

pete 359:
another of dai howells photos, this time two long serving joint motorways drivers, hubert hanson leaning on the mirror arm of the daf and bernard cody.
This is what the weight this truck is good at .I used too drive the sister of this truck too load trailers and take 36 tonne loads of scap on it. If any one thought the old mercs were guttless try taking one of these one at 36 tonnes . You might change your mind ! I know they were ex tescos lorries thats where they should have stayed !!!

Hi was that addie from bayston hill shrewsbury? I thought he dies of a heart attack. But what ever he was a really good bloke he would help any one . Its sad too see he died soo young. Yes the Daf’s were crap ! How many did Joints buy ? All I know they were ex Tesco trucks . Mine was allfull you had too thrash it on the flats too get up the banks !! Every one hated when it had too go back the yard for a service !! It was that bad. When I was in the scap yard you had too rev it just too go round there. When I had a merc 1628 in there it went round on tick over !!!m Tony
Not many people will have seen these photos of a Wynn`s accident. It took place on the old Monmouth to Raglan road,on the corner behind the northbound A449.It would appear that work was being carried out on the left handside of the road.Traffic lights ment all vehicles had to cross to the right.I know that the land to the right is very boggy and any long load would have to stay on the tarmac.Hope you all enjoy what you are about to see.
hello rich griff.
i believe that gantry was on route from the midlands to the new spencer works at llanwern when wynns had that bit of a hiccup, and rumour has it the gantry was subject to certain checks on arrival at llanwern and was accepted as safe to be used as a crane in the mills.that must be seen as a good solid piece of design and engineering.
regards graham.

the crown buckley brewery in pontyclyn ran these aec’s for many years.sadly they have gone, the brewery is a housing estate and the lorries are gone.
Two of these drays were converted to tankers. One can be seen in the background on the loading dock. These were designed and built at Pontyclun. One started going around the local shows around 1988, but Crown were bought out by Brains, and as they already had a Mammoth Major 6 dray to ‘show off’, the tankers were retired. The best one was outside the offices for sale as a chassis cab, but I dont know what happened to it. A later ERF 4 wheeler dray was sold off to showmen locally and was converted to a 6 wheeler. It still survives somewhere in the u.k.
Anyone fancy a project on a good local vehicle? There is an AEC Mercury for sale on page 78 of the Classic & Commercial Vehicle mag this month. STX 936 S started life as a dray with United Clubs brewery in Pontyclun. It later became a tanker (like in the background of above picture) with the now named Crown Brewery. Now for sale in Lincolnshire for £3000 all up and running, just looking for a dray body.
her are a few from mechanic77,mod or “master of disaster” was the pride of the early 90’s recovery fleet for wall’s recovery from newport.it was some machine in it’s day ,wall’s recovery have operated some serious pieces of hardwear over the last 40 odd years.mod is seen here on the a449ecovering an e&j meeks daf.
Does anyone out there have any photos of the six wheeler Trader tippers that Margam Slag ran down to LLanwern in the mid 60’s? I would like to make a model of one for my collection of local wagons. I can remember them quite well, but a photo can give you those bits you’ve lost over 45 years!
