South Wales Hauliers sixties and seventies onwards (Part 1)

can you just imagine how some of our wonderful ? car and van drivers behave, when graham and the walters team take something like this down the road with no police present :open_mouth:

CRACKING PHOTOS
THIS IS THE SAME SET UP THAT TURNED UP ON SITE A WHILE AGO, CANT REMEMBER THE FIRM WHITE WITH BLACK WRITING,
ANY WAY CROSS WIRES IN COMMS LED THEM TO BELIEVE THEY WERE PICKING UP A PILLING RIG OF LARGE DIMENSION ,
TURNED OUT TO WEIGH TWENTY TON DID I LAUGH

 :imp: in the lat60s i drove for oswalds of ayr transport, blue mandater with a big silver crane box trailer on,
had to be at hoovers before 8 am, met up with a lot of steel comany of wales trucks heading for brum,
also briton ferry steel, gwynn bowen trucks as well,
i want to appologise for being a road runner but needs must,
to one of bowens driver, my mate ginger taff who ran you off the road never stopped worrying in case you got to him,
i took the job on just after that had happened,
i met one of bowens coming the other way near to clun,
he came close to running me off but i think at the last seconds he saw i was’nt “taff”,
all nearside wheels in the ditch and ■■■■ all up the side of my trailer,
my gaffer thought i’d had her on her side,
still those were the days,
ta-ta stan-the-man

it’s only a piece of metal
don’t fall in love with it :open_mouth: :arrow_right: :arrow_right:

Hi Stan,
One of Gwynne Bowen’s drivers lives at Bucknell which is not far from Clun, his name is John Davies,he drove for Glyn Bowen for many years running to Scotlland and back most weeks. He finished off driving a Volvo F88 artic for Pontrilas Sawmills hauling timber from the forests to the mill,he is now retired aged 80+ with a son and grandson both lorry drivers,so if it was him you had your close encounter with, you didn’t put him off.Knowing the roads around Clun its not easy to pass another lorry,as the roads are more suited to the Horse and Cart  …
Cheers Dave.

in the back ground of this photo,is mason brothers foden, now owned by kbhs.

its great to see the foden again,i worked in fairwood and drove the foden alot.it did have a gardner 6lw engine but no starter motor so to start the engine we had to swing the starter handle.the lw burnt a big end bearing so a 150 lx engine went back in with a starter motor.apparently only two were built by foden and called Goliaths

Id like to Thank Mervyn Williams from Hereford for the next few photo,s this was 1 of the marathons he drove for Morfa Transport

Another 1 of Mervyns Willaims lorries with his 2 son,s one of which used to work with me Adrian

Mervyn Williams parked by Mount Blanc

This is a photo of a friend of meryn,s by the name of Yan Liveings proberly known as yanto but has sadly passed away now

Sorry for going of the South Wales line but these next two pictures are of him on a russian trip whilst working for an Irish Firm
