Taken today at the Carmathen Truck Show looking at the reg it looks as if it came out of Cardiff new mr Gates may be able to help with this

What a cracking show and personally i think its better than truckfest as nobody is screwing money out of it and a good cheap day out

Hi guy’s, i will try and find out off the salesman in work if he remembers the vehicle in question. I was at the event too, was a really good day out. Did any of you see the Silurian demo■■?
Their were some very impressive vehicles around, a lot of time, effort & money gone into them.
Regards Simon.

Hi Simon,
If you PM jonmea who is the owner and a trucknet member,he will tell you where the Scania originally came from.
Cheers Dave.

hi dennis,
hope you are well mate.i didn’t know much about the tractor or truck pulling  ,i mistakenly thought that the sled weighed around 30 tonnes :open_mouth: ,only i did wonder when i saw the 530 horsepower 150 tonne double drive hub reduction man bucking under the load if my guess was right?this morning i spoke to my mate, trucknet member ec14 who is a leading authority on tractor/truck pulling,he told me the sled was over 90 tonnes  ,i felt a bit silly then!anyway here’s an old favourite for you dennis,a scania 111 that used to be owned by abernant transport.

glyn john transport ran a large mixed fleet.in the background is a valley carriers/wincanton big j.

i think? llanelli based hughes haulage later became owens road services?

swansea based robbins transport have ran many vehicles over the years, here’s a sleeper cab crusader.

a john raymond f10 and erf at the bottom of jubilee way.around the time this was taken, early 1990’s raymond’s had drivers living in ostende and the firm carried out around 30-40 trips a week abroad.they stopped continental work totally about 10 years ago.

i know it was sold new from telford trucks Cardiff to an owner driver on continental work. he owned it for around 18 months. then Derek Brick from Knighton pulled a livestock trailer with it until 1994. Dad bought it from Roy Edwards Knighton in 1994 and ran it with a low loader and tipper trailer until he retired.

This is G. J. William’s vehicle. was sold to Hillcroft Recovery & I believe is still on the road■■?

Was that the basis for their 3 axle underlift? If so I beleive its still going after approx 10 years with them.

There was an earlier ‘welsh connection’ Scania a streamline 4x2 in similar colours, I remember it being run by WT Smith from Newport.

hi all,

fab thread this, loved the crusaders of hughes haulage.

Clive hughes has a home in a village 3 miles from where i live, however these days he resides in Australia.

for the record hughes haulage did not become owens of llanelli,as a matter of fact the owens bros Eurof and ? both started with hughes haulage before starting on their own!

keep the great pic’s coming.

hi Andrew
that old GJT sudden accident brings back memories. i was still in school when these and the old volvo F86&F88’s used to regularly run out of Aberdare Cables near to where i used to live. where did you get this pic and have you got any more(please) i worked for Glyn John for four years in the mid~late 80’s but by then all the class trucks had gone. to be replaced by a fleet of crappy iveco’s. would love to see pics of their old F88’s if you can find any
kindest regards
Mark
