Hi boys these were Leyland Super Beavers , they were beefed up export versions of our f/c Beavers
the early ones were fitted with the old faithful 600 engines later models used the 680 versions, some of these super
Beavers entered service in this country for heavy duty service.(Siddle Cook for example)
These Super Beavers owned by the N.C.B. operated alongside Scammell Mountaineers a rugged 4x4 chassis
usually fitted with Meadows Diesels or the Leyland 680. both types operated with mobile winding gear
in the South Wales coalfield ( might be of interest to one or two of you) the history lesson now ends

here’s one from tsp transport from skewen.many years later they became tsp beer when they bought out geo.beer transport, not long after they disappeared.
here’s another picture of an entress deutz.bill entress apparantley got sick and tired of uk truck manufactures inability to supply vehicles during the 1960’s.so he started buying some of those odd named continental lorries, scania, volvo, deutz aaah they’ll never catch on!

my dear mate sid evans who took me everywhere when i was a kid in the many trucks he drove, luckily i wasn’t with him in yugoslavia in the spring of 1986 when a german on the wrong side of the road nearly killed him.sadly sid passed away three years ago this december 12th…r.i.p. mate
hi all,
i have just found two other pictures of this impact, they are of the german registered renault artic that caused it.i think that the german pinched a little bit of the white line and collided with sid,who was travelling in the opposite direction.
i think? that the german was carrying coil springs as they are all over the road.i know that sid was taking ladies dress’s down to the middle east.the ex a.s.griffiths scania111 owo 697r was a total write off!

LYNXMAN:

same long load and a tight turn.
hi lynxman, that last one’s a top picture!they had to use alot of road in the days before steering trailers.
regards andrew
hello pete.
the turning that the scania is trying to take is between drefach and porthyrhydd and even for us with all dancing and singing trailers it is a pretty tight turn, fair play to him.we sometimes take that option of joining the A48 when coming out of torcoed quarry instead of doing battle in cross hands.
regards graham.
