hi dai,
he did have a guy big j.he converted that into a tractor unit i think?the only scammell i remember was a contractor that he put a marathon cab on.don’t think that project was ever finished though?
regards andrew
hi andrew i remembre that scammell contractor in mervyn james in tondu i think they finished it off dai cap.
hi dai,
yes that sound about right mate.i thought we might try something a little different.i have always been mad on trucks all my life,i am also interested in showmans transport.so for a change the next few are images of welsh showmans lorries.here is a welsh registered fh12 seen in porthcawl fairground, known as coney beach.
back in 2000 when coney beach owner pat evans bought a ride from surrey based mannings, this volvo came as part of the deal.she’s still parked around the back of coney beach, rotting away.

hi andrew, that fairground fh n746 rwn was new to n r evans cross hands.
hi mate,
thanks for that “head of maintenance”,sounds like there’s a real posse of us going to gaydon from what steelboyf10 just told me .we are also hoping that the flights are back on for this thursday.otherwise the malta truck show trip this weekend has gone out the window,
regards andrew
i took this picture back in september 2002 when patrick evans was getting ready to leave coney beach for neath fair.this heavy rear steered trailer is a good 17/18 metres long, coupled at the back is the paybox.another artic pulled by an old left ■■■■■■ man with a similar size and weight trailer carries the other half of the travelling “beach party” ride.on the rear of that load is a two axle caravan.i presume that showmen are allowed special dispensation regarding vehicle length.

the studts from swansea go back several generations and a long time before they had the ex-philips petroleum ec erf above they ran this crusader.
Looks like the Scammell carries a Gardner genny set Andrew cheers Dennis.

hi mark,
yes, tony morgan did have a scammell s26 new,it had a very large cab.i posted a photo of that truck much earlier on in this thread, after it was sold to leicester heavy haulage.that was the tony morgan scammell that i temporarily forgot about. didn’t know it was in the motor show though?

hi malcom,
that foden was new to john evans transport from llanelli, the last time i went down the ground (fair) it was still in john evans’ old colour scheme of maroon and white, several of his fodens and maybe this actual one have been on the thread lately.one of the pictures my mate bubbleman posted recently on page 91 was one of their artics.
regards andrew
my old mate alun griffiths who has spent his whole working life in the transport business called in last saturday with his daf xf.alun pulls containers for goldstar out of avonmouth dock.
pyle based jason williams has this scania on hire whilst his own scania topline is in with us having extensive bodywork, interior and exterior modifications.
sunhill transport from deeside north wales are a well established steel haulier who are well known on the run down from shotton steelworks to port talbot south wales, one of their drivers tim called in earlier today in his smart fh loaded with over width plate for llanelli, being the modern age of course the plate was loaded at birkenhead after it had had been imported from macedonia.in the old days this type of plate would have come from barrow,or stockton, but that was then and this is now, well done gordon brown.
look at the background of this shot and you will see one of john raymond’s many f10’s.at the 1990 brands hatch show.i think? this f10 was the last one that long serving j.r. driver ■■■■ hopkins had.
hi everyone,
myself and a number of like minded friends are leaving for malta tonight,on a jolly boys outing to the large annual truck show held out there.provided no more volcano’s erupt or any other unforseen events ,i/we will be back monday with some photos for our thread.
regards andrew
Im Tony Morgans son John. You have all certainly put a smile on his face with pics of his old trucks. It has also put a few lumps in my throat.
We have hundreds of pictures of the various things that were moved over the years & I will try to post them if you think they would be of intrest.
To answer one of the questions asked earlier - We did have a Scammell Crusader & she had a 72 series Detroit in her. The Sound was fantastic. It was Driven Danny Harren who also used to work for Dai Coity.
Heres a poic of the S26 - She was a big cam ■■■■■■■ with a Brochuis Torque Convertor & Spicer box. The cab was extended by Loco Motors of andover. I will try to find the pics of the inside. The last I saw of her she was with Leiceter Heavy Haulage. The Trailer is a Tasker 4 axle with 2 self trackers. The dolly was removed from the front for this load.
Big Doug Randall can be seen climing in the cab with Ken Harry his mate with his back to us. Bothy are now sadly no longer with us. The guy on top was known as Hedghog (Gareth Lewis)
The boat was the last Bristol Channel Cutter called the Olga on her way to Swansea Maritime Museum from Maldon in Essex.
