hi dennis,
i gotta disagree with you mate, the appearance may be good, but the joint motorways sheeting isn’t a patch on the bewick team.i give you boys 15 out of 10 for that
regards andrew

hi dennis,
jm11 was an m&g,joint’s favoured them, good well built trailers, with a decent size swing well as i recall.unlike the majority of their trailers which were often old tandems, converted to tri-axle with a “hatchet split” size coil well.i suppose m&g are no longer with us?i seem to remember that they were next to a steel drop in the midlands, dudley i think?

couple from the shillibier album

Sammy dog, was that F86 a 6 or 8 wheeler. If it was an 8 wheeler was it ex Jim Harkins Llanharan? Around 1983/84 they had a bunch of F7s, nice looking they were too.

they bought this 2035 second hand from gullivers truck rental in cardiff,i painted it and it was given to long serving shrewsbury driver, warwick gittens.

Hi Andrew, F372 was the last vehicle I closed a rental contract on at Gullivers. She had been with Scottish & Newcastle whilst theirs was being MOT’d. It was one of the first tractors to go into the Cardiff fleet when they were based off east tyndall st, along with Merc 814 box vans and Ford Cargo flatbeds. She looks nice there in her second life, where no doubt she earned her keep.
Cheers Paul

Andrew, F372 is the second motor I have seen that I had driven on TN.UK. It was Sept 1991 I last saw it, so it obviously brings back some memories. It was one of the tractors Gullivers Transport Services used pulling TIP fridges, prior to the new Powerliner 2 units on a G plate, and new length trailers arriving. As it happens back on rental service, she spent some time in Bridgend with the furniture boys, and Vaughan Logistics. Can you remember what year Joint acquired her?
We had photo’s of the GTS fleet all liveried up and they looked superb, how I wish I had carried a camera for my own album.
Regards Paul

good morning,
as i remember,i painted f372 during november 1991.joints needed some 6 wheelers fairly quickly and bought that and an ex united transport 2033 merc, registered d588 xnh.everyone says about the photos they wish they took.it’s totally different now with us all having camera phones.i used to spend a fortune on developing film, now with digital imaging it’s all free.sammy dog,i am along with many others enjoying the old shillibier pictures, thanks.

Hiya …Before the bypass was opened around Whichurch (15 years ago ish)someone chucked a coil off on the sharp bend/bridge and the coil rolled 15/20ft
down a embankment by the waterboard house no truck to be seen was that a Joint motor■■? Desert driver will remember it.
I had a coil on out of Runcorn dock one day. John Ofarrel booked me to do it (short trailer)this coil was 2ft 6ins wide and 7ft 9ins high 22 tons.
it was the days before you had wells by law. I had 2 irons and two 3ft long 6x6 timbers 4 dogs and chains wow did i take it easy Runcorn to Longton steel
in Stoke.
John

hi john,
it could have been one of joint’s mis-haps.they moved a collosal amount of steel over the years.the only steel drop i remember in stoke, was james and tatton.
regards andrew

Hi Andrew .It was after your time at joints .Jeff passant RIP had a coil off in the Abbey. He was told too have a holiday !! for I think a month then he came back too work. Tony

Chris, don’t apologise for butting in, I would never have rememberd Burnholme even like John said they were everywhere.

dessert driver:
Hi boys
Sorry John was that at Sandford been quite a few incidents there.I remember a coil at the end of the moor on the A525 halfway between Ruthin and Wrexham. It was there for months. Also dos anyone remember a coil coming out of the side of a tilt just south of Chester on the A41 by the black dog pub killing the driver of an oncoming car.It had been loaded in Shotton with no well and blocked with timbers. This was the company that under cut our rate by 50% but took twice as long to do the job…Sorry still bitter after 25 years :imp: I remember that one Keith we had our trucks serviced at morrys at the back of the black dog.

Hi Keith…That coil came of at the Raven side of town.you know the duel carrigeway ended at the roudabout near the antiques place and you come straight into
town but wasen’t there a bend and the waterworks was on the left down an embankment before you come to that other roundabout where you turn left and
come out by the rocking hourse roundabout.
The last big one i remember at Sandford bridge was that Paddy waggon with the 25 ton of Muscles they was everywhere
That one was a mess remember the pig waggon going over just north of Grinley brook.
John

John, know exactly where you mean, as you come off the end of the duel carriageway and over the roundabout in towards town there is a left and right bend over the railway bridge then a drop on the left down to two cottages the first one is R and R roofing and the second a dog kennels. There used to be loads of accidents on that bridge before the bypass, plus since the old telephone exchange was converted into a private school they have been trying to reduce the speed in that area.

Regards Keith

Hiya first of all chris pop in any time. you know what a table full of drivers are like get a word in any where if you can.
ask for butting in DON’T be daft.
KEITH do you know where you said the telephone place was in Whichurch I always thought it was the waterboard.OH well.
I only run down the A41 for 18 years I must be a slow learner Ha Ha…never got a cafe mixed up lots of T
Cheers lads John

Hi Richard,
That pic of the AEC six wheeler on timber shows how rough on a lorry that job is,it’s the only job thats harder on the kit than tipper work in my opinion.
Cheers Dave.
