There was a Williams Brothers with tippers at Crosshands wasn’t there,in the 70s?
Were they the same ones that went into TDG up North Wales.

hi chris,
yes there was a williams bros. in cross hands, quite a big firm.i wouldn’t know if they were related.at a guess i would say no,as we have plenty of williams, jones, evans, davies…etc etc in wales.

Hi All,
Great site this here’s three ex South Wales motors I have owned, does anyone know who had them from new ?
Regards Richard

Richard the only one I can help with is the v10 310 Deutz. It was sold by Rhymney Valley Motors of Pengam/ Bargoed S Wales. They were Deutz dealers before Severn Vale of Newport. I believe she was a demo motor, but the only two I remember in service was an owner driver from Blackwood on low loader work, and one other small firm who ran one on general haulage from the heads of the valley. They were reported as being fast on acceleration but were really heavy on fuel, bulletproof but to expensive to run.

Andrew, great photo’s once again. Thanks.

Chris, the Williams Bro’s were two different companies.

Cheers Paul.

hiya lads.
was the deutz tractor unit once in ryan transport fleet?
cheers graham

Dave,Andrew,Paul & Graham

Many thanks for your replies, the Maggie was painted green and I think had the name Mahoney or something like that on it,Pontypool way I seem to remember.
Keep the pics coming, they are nearly as good as Dave’s jokes
Regards Richard

Hi Graham, I remember Ryan Transport having a tractor unit painted blue and white as opposed to the reddish colour, but I think it was more modern and younger than the one featured. In the early eighties 232 8 wheel deutz tippers were running all over the Valley’s.
I am not sure who ran the most, but I think it may of been something like this; Alan Price + Sons, W R Jones, Ryan Transport, T W Transport and Clytha transport.

hi all,
walters group low loader driver graham hillman has emailed somemore gems to share, thanks graham.

these old iron lung scania’s would pull a house down and in the right hands would carry out a phenomenal mileage without any trouble.

walters group ran this daf, though it was a good truck, sadly it didn’t prove as reliable as the swedes they have had over the years,so she went and then graham had another scania again.

another fairly recent shot of graham’s topline 620.

hello paul john.
you rattled a few forgotten names there,i am almost certain that tommy white had the agency for the maggies around74/75 .time he had quite a few moving a tip above merthyr vale called dan y deri, these trucks were loaded at the time with a 30-rb dragline then it was a grueling trip acroos the top of the mountain to ryans cwmbargoed washery.something tells me that he was based around caerphilly/bedwas area, ryans had quite a number of them as well.i suppose they were well thought out in terms of parts interchangerbillity weather it was a3cyl engine or a bigger one i believe the top end bits and pieces were the same,
best regards graham.

Hi Graham, Tommy White was one of the partners in Rhymney Valley Motors the Deutz dealer, and ran both operations from the same site opposite Britannia colliery on the Aberbargoed to Risca road. It was probably a Pengam address! The business was previously a Commer / Dodge dealer, who supplied the NCB with vehicles. Mechanic 77 may be able to help here, but I think it was then ran by the Cotton family,

Regards Paul.

this looks like my local quarry at south cornelly?

another from above.
