me in g800 heading for either west brom. or atkins of derby? to changeover tommy roberts.loaded with a slab for b.s.c. lackenby.

What weight was in the slab then Andrew ? Dennis.

hi dennis,
they were usually around 22 tonne.if they were the smaller lighter ones then you would load two.then they were double chained at each end.the one in the photo would be tight against the headboard so centre chains were fine,as long as you were carefull.for a while we took export slabs to swansea dock that were used in the u.s.a. to stamp out the bottom of the railway cars, most of them were 24 tonne and 9 feet wide.i always wondered what they did with the port talbot slabs at the primary mill in lackenby?we used to take them there, they would then move them around the yard a few times, then a few months or so later we would bring them back to port talbot or more often llanwern.
regards andrew

If youv’e been having a bad day Andrew this shot should brighten you up !! It will have been taken at the time we re-furbed the old girl then it went onto local, running loads of woodpulp from the warehouse in Carnforth to the paper Mill at Beetham 14 mile round trip. The shunters nickname who drove 480L was “Cyclone” and he couldn’t half make the old girl percolate !!! Dennis.

sounds like you had you,r money’s worth out of ojm dennis?earlier today, grahame hillman who is a well known and respected plant heavy haulage driver with walters group kindly called into see me and enabled me to take these photos of an 85 tonne machine that he had collected from the tarmac quarry in south cornelly.the scania and trailer weigh 55 tonnes empty,so all up weight today was in excess of 140 tonnes.grahame being the consumate profesional man he is, made it look all so easy.you are a fine ambassador to the uk heavy haulage industry.
thanks grahame.

pete 359:

A load and a half there Andrew !! Well out of my league those lads ! It is a very specialist job Heavy Hauling !!! Excellent all the same well done ! Cheers Dennis.

the man himself,grahame hillman.

this is grahame and the walter’s team moving a hytachi ex1800.even with the “stick” removed she still weighed just under 200 tonnes gross.

looks like that 620 's pulling well.

Hiya Andrew if I’d known you could have done me a “Half decent paint job” I wouldn’t have dragged these two 113s all the way back from West Trucks !! I could have just shot them across the Bridge !! Cheers Dennis.
