Sorry about having to dash Andrew but I had to go into town with the “Boss” ! The Fell F88 came to grief early one morning in mid '77 when it was just 6 mths old . It was travelling south on the M6 down the hill towards the Blackburn/Preston junction and as he came out of the sheltered part the wind hit the high load and just carried him across both carriage-ways and the barriers managed to stop him just before he plunged onto the road below ! It caused chaos as the engineers closed the road under the M/way. Alf Bellamy was our driver and he was un-hurt fortunatley but it took him quite a while to get over it although he never quite returned to his old self .Now for the Sanquar accident ! you will not be satisfied until I have humiliated my-self and the firm will you ??I will put all 5 shots on the thread ! the Volvo people in Carlisle said it would rebuild as it was valued at the time at £9500 and they said it would repair for £9000 !! I said to Ian Grant the workshop manager NO WAY ! Its been running upside down so I didn’t want it back so I said stick another £550 on the quote and I’ll have a new F10 of you ! Job sorted. The driver Jim Varney was well shook up but OK and guess which motor he got to replace 16P -------- 17P !! the driver off 17P got the new F10 !!

As per page 74, nice line up of wreckers. Its good to know the second from the camera being a Leyland Martian stills survives under a sheet near Llanharry.

hi all,
i have at last found my missing joints albums containing some of my favourite joints photos.mrs. cooper says she didn’t hide them honest. trucknet member chris 143 used to drive this iveco for joint motorways subbie owen jenkins.

this iveco was fairly new when i painted joints stripes on her.what a crap truck!she ended her days after getting a little bit hot,as shown earlier on our thread.

from crap truck,to the (in my biased opinion) best two trucks joints ever had. g800 for obvious reasons, but that daf g273 kth was an excellent vehicle that gave very little trouble after the incredibly high mileage it did after having been used and abused by joints drivers and drovers.

just out of the paint shop and coupled up to a load of bryngwyn colour coated coil for driver keith green to tip in felixstow,

me in g800 heading for either west brom. or atkins of derby? to changeover tommy roberts.loaded with a slab for b.s.c. lackenby.

l937 gcy a brand new 1838 merc.with a nearly new trailer,taken at margam park.

And here’s another later long term demo , “Skippy” the driver is just about to set sail for London one Sunday morning loaded with 24 ton of Libby Orange “C” ! You will notice I am putting all the ■■■■■ on Joints thread !!! Cheers Dennis.

hi dennis,
i wouldn’t imagine that you were impressed with that load of italian crap?though i am biased, they did at least have a fuller box in them.those iveco’s could rust quicker than a mk3 cortina.

What weight was in the slab then Andrew ? Dennis.

hi dennis,
they were usually around 22 tonne.if they were the smaller lighter ones then you would load two.then they were double chained at each end.the one in the photo would be tight against the headboard so centre chains were fine,as long as you were carefull.for a while we took export slabs to swansea dock that were used in the u.s.a. to stamp out the bottom of the railway cars, most of them were 24 tonne and 9 feet wide.i always wondered what they did with the port talbot slabs at the primary mill in lackenby?we used to take them there, they would then move them around the yard a few times, then a few months or so later we would bring them back to port talbot or more often llanwern.
