South Wales Hauliers sixties and seventies onwards (Part 1)

hiya,
What length is that Chris??, did an eighty odd footer years ago but that looks a lot longer and certainly a lot heavier must have a good steersman with them jobs.

Fifty two meters I think Harry which is about 170 ft in owd money.I don’t know what the weight is but I do know the MAN 4-axle tractor was the first of it’s type in the UK - or so I was told - which was about two years ago.

hiya,
Would even change my ways and clean the windscreen if i could just have a go at summat like that Chris, just once before i croak, bet i could still do it, just like riding a bike you never forget, you’ve got to remember the guy at the handlebars is only as good as his crew.
thanks harry long retired.

I’ll have a word with the gaffer when I see him Harry, maybe Norm could be on the back end eh?

hiya,
Don’t know about Norm as steersman, he’d have to lift me in the shed first then he’d have to phone a taxi to get to the back end, some load that.

hi lads,
good input all round tonight, whilst we are on the subject of heavy haulers, here is one from south wales, graham keedwell moved from his native somerset to south wales in the 70’s to help build the m4 motorway.35 plus years later he’s still here and one of his early motors was this scania.seen here after he sold it and she went on overseas work.

here is a 142 that graham bought new around 1988.she’s a lot different now.

here’s grahame keedwell with a large fabrication bhind his beloved scania, seen in the ā€œthe abbeyā€ port talbot.

another view of the same large fabrication.

nice to see arron keedwell with all the right ppe on :unamused:

truckfest p/boro.2007,the blue f16 is owned by my good friend paul davenport from corwen north wales, parked next to us(with the cab tilted),with the bloody keys in the ignition and the door locked is our geordie mate from newcastle keith storey’s fh16.it took us 5 hours and lots of beer to get into the cab without causing any damage,i’m the one in the blue t shirt and my f16 is in the background, happy days indeed.

here are some more of daibootsy’s geo.beer photos.

i don’t know why some of their trucks were red? and others green?

What a piece of junk, they didn’t even cut the back of the cab out, they’ve just nailed on a filing cabinet with no drawers & took the windows out of the back of the cab, those 401 Seddons came out in 81 so the sleeper cab was well estabilished by then, that’s just penny pinching, I parked up next to one of these abominations in a 4 series topline, what a contrast, I’m sure it was red though.

hi newmercman,

hi jerry,
very funny  ,i don’t think newmercman realised,it’s actually a sed. atki.400,not a 401,so it’s even older than he thought.
regards andrew

Pete, I did wonder about the square tank & the door handles, looking at it again, you’re right it is a 400, so it was older than I thought, but even so, there was a sleeper version available from 77 & the topline I was in was a 96, so there were no excuses to be running around in a piece of crap like that, it couldn’t have been worth more than a grand on the used market, I’m sure old Georgie boy could’ve found another couple of hundred quid for a sleeper version :open_mouth: as you say Pete, glad I never had to drive it, although I’ve driven worse, everyone else was driving worse too

Jerry, filing cabinet… I like it

Hi all, today i went up to Margam park where Scania was doing a promotion i was lucky enough to have the opportunity to take this 620 R series out for a test drive and what a tool it is to, it was only when my mate Alan Cruise who took me out explained it had 28 ton on her back i appreciated how well went, Alan also gave me some pics to share with my trucknet Buddies
