Hi Martyn,
Thought it was paint, looked as if it would take a bit of removing, feeling were running a bit high at that time. I remember several from around here on that job, names blacked out and mesh on the windows.
Cheers Dave.

Same this way Martyn,a lot of lorries were hauling into Buildwas power station near Telford from the coal mines in the Midlands,it was working man against working man, which is what Maggie wanted in my opinion, among other things. I’ll put my soapbox down now.
Cheers Dave.

You need a high tailgate as well if you eat in there Andrew.
how about this for a view from a real truck ,i know some people (mainly truck enthusiasts) vomit when they see an american truck, but if you’ve never driven one on a uk road you won’t know what i mean.this photo was taken by sgt. mathew broxx from the united states air force when he accompanied me on the 2009 steel boys run, north bound evesham bypass…where’s all the others then matt? hey andy there all way back fu…ng behind us man!
Hi andrew hows things ? I’m not being sarcastic , what is your truck like too drive ? I know its long but does it go well etc ? Also have you any more pictures from inside your cab ? I know the thread is supposed too be about south wales firms but I think our buddies won’t mind lol .Take care .Tony

hi tony,
i’m fine thanks and hope that you and you’r family are also.my peterbilt drives really well,it’s easily the smoothest riding truck that i have ever driven,it has air on the rear, pretty innovative really for a 1983 truck,by comparison the first european air suspended truck i drove was g800 hth in 1989.it’s very high geared as it’s geared for the dead straight roads of north america, the owner driver i bought it from had it new in 1983 and did 3 million miles with it.yes miles, not km’s.his wife told me he was crying when he left it at the dock in baltimore for me.my mate came to belgium with me last year and he reckoned it was more comfortable than his 2 year old 620 scania.i absolutely love driving this truck and my 8 year old son and i can sleep in real comfort as it has two proper beds, sink, fridge, microwave, flat screen satellite tv and internet.i will post some interior pictures.i would have loved to have taken it out with one of joints loaded triaxles ,i coupled it up to my mates trailer and people nearly crashed when they saw it.
regards andrew

Question Andrew ! did one of the Europeans take Peterbilt over ? Dennis.

hi dennis,
no,paccar who are the parent company of kenworth and peterbilt, as you would be aware purchased foden in the early 80’s.peterbilt are a bit of a non-entity joke in europe…however in the usa they are a huge brand.they were a market leader until volvo’s recent usa ■■■■■■■■■■.they (paccar) also own daf.

Thanks Andrew, Paccar( that was short for Pacific car Co Ithink ? ) I remember when they bought Fodens but from memory it was a disaster wasn’t it ? Entirely differen’t markets the USA and Europe differen’t operating conditions ,cultures ect ect.Cheers Dennis.
hi dennis,
i think? it was pacific car and foundry inc. abreviated to paccar.you are totally correct in saying that the european and u.s. markets are poles apart.a class 8 semi as the yanks call it is what we would call a 44 tonner artic.the number 1 class8 tractor in the usa is a volvo vnh, with either a cat,■■■■■■■ or preferably (to the yanks) a detroit.volvo have very shrewdly conquered the usa market and beaten kenworth and peterbilt in their own backyard.in a similar way to them gaining a foothold in the uk during the late 60’s and early 70’s.but the yanks being yanks didn’t want any european engines mated to a state of the art i-shift automatic transmission, they wanted the good old yankee thumpers bolted onto an eaton/fuller combination.simple and bomb proof yes,but about as technologically advanced as a piece of 2 by 2 timber.
regards andrew
trucknet member ec 14 ran this daf tipper during the 1980’s.
lifelong driver alan evans drives for faber prest or hansco,as i think they are now known.alan had this daf new around 10 years ago.
going back a few years now,a picture of my old mate sid evans’ (r.i.p) scania 112,just loaded casting powder for the abbey in mullheim germany 1994.

Thanks for the gen on Paccar Andrew and here’s that little Gem of an ERF I was on about NEC299P 1/76 180LXB/Fuller/KirkstallHR I bought it new from HLH at Wiffler rd Norwich and when the Trade Plater delivered it one Friday morning in December75 it should have been a DB6spd/Eaton 2spd ( one two they had advertised )But I didn’t make a song and dance because I didn’t realise that ERF had built this spec but oh Andrew it would only clock 52 Mph and that was defo no good for the Daventry trunk ( hence the debacle at Middlewich with the Diff.) But it turned out to be a little cracker !! It must have been something to do with its fleet name “JUDY” after my old dog that I had just had to put to sleep cause of old age !I changed the colour scheme in early 75 but thats another story for another time !!! Cheers Dennis.
