Hiya Andrew I finally made it ! But not without the invaluable help of the wife otherwise I would still be up the creek without the proverbial !!! Through the 80s and up to 95 Bewick had an International licence for 100 vehicles and 250 trailers and from 1990 we were running about 95vehicles including one or two rigids but the fleet was fairly well spread out from Milnthorpe/Garstang/Oakenholt/Irlam/Disley Radcliffe/ Rochdale /Cullompton/Daventry /Hemel Hempstead /Brooklands and we had a number of drivers who ran their motors from where they lived in Lancs and the midlands .Our customer base was across the UK and we were able to keep empty running to a bare minimum . I put those particular pics up for you as I know you are not happy to see a motor that is not freshly painted !!! The ERF was shot when new in Sept 73 at our old depot in the village .it was supplied by Eden Commercials Carlisle , 220 ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ 609/KF D85 axle.It was a nice smooth motor but didn’t perform as well as the Atky’s of same spec .The two Scany’s on the low loader were some of a batch of near new tractors I aquired from Haydock commercials for a big contract we took on in Radcliffe . They are pictured just out of the paint shop !! there was another 12 tractors along with those two ! The Guy (Hooray !!! ) is shot when new into service at our second Milnthorpe depot it was the last Guy we bought and it joined some Seddons and Sed/atks running out of the Beetham mill at Minthorpe ,they all had Gardner 180s and the Sed/atks had 2 speed axles .I would add that all our motors were always kept clean and tidy but of course they always look better newly painted and lettered ( don’t they ?). Cheers Dennis.

last one for today…is it real or classic restored, TNT ran out of Llantrisant, and had a big fleet of Marathon, not as many as Joints though eh, coops!

It must be classic restored, I drove that truck when it was new and it belonged to Richmond truck rental Smethwick, fitted with a 250 ■■■■■■■■ It did a lot of work with them and I wouldn’t have thought TNT would have bought a clapped rental truck for their fleet !

Hi Trev, correct…I bought it in 1994, ish and painted in TNT livery, I understood it blew up prior to me buying it, for £350!, ran OK, I also had a TNT trailer behind it, travelled to quite a few classic runs. A pal at Richmonds told me the truck was also used in a series of Boon, but have never seen it.

Heres a few from the album

another north wales haulier

Manor Tranpsort Llay, nr Wrexham, this MAN was driven by ex Shones driver Brian “curley” Highes

Shones F7, driven by Ken “snicker” Peers, from new, 1st sleeper on the fleet

443, in the yard on a Friday tea time, just returned from South Wales, loaded with a ingot for shotton

wasnt quick enough with this one…

now from Llay, Wrexham

hi all,
gwynne bowen from gorseinon near swansea had a very smart fleet,i reckon my mate bewick will like these next few from dai bootsy.
regards andrew

i can’t say that i am a fan of fodens,i have always thought they were way behind the swedish manufacturers, but that said this one is a fine looking machine in bowens livery.bootsy tells me that this was the first foden to leave the factory with an eight cylinder gardner 240 in her.alot of power in a uk truck in 1970.

Pete 359 and Andrew i think you would find driving the Foden a pain in the ■■■■. The reverse sloping screen caursed what drivers called 5D.
There was a reflection between the side screen and windscreen so when you was reversing it made objects outside go the wrong way.
I have never driven one but a Jays of Atherton driver told me.A couple of years ago i was driving a Merc and it had one of them silly mirrors that look
infront of the truck for pedestrans. Well i think that was similar when you reverse the reflection in the mirror makes things go the wrong way.
