South Wales Hauliers sixties and seventies onwards (Part 1)

if you look in a dictionary for the meaning of the word character it’ll say jeff hewson  .jeff was a great guy larger than life and always plenty of jokes and tales to tell.jeff drove for joint’s for many years, then subbed to them for many years after that.this was his f12 seen in the summer of 1988.

in 1989 he traded in the f12 and bought a scania.

august 1998 and bob tuck came to joint’s for a magazine article about my erf.

Hi Andrew yes it would be great it would be great if you restored billys truck.Have you got more pictures of the truck?I bet it flew over the beacons. The nearest I got too driving one of the new (at the time) mercs was a lowly V6.How did you get too driving Billys baby? He had a MAN latter on .

Hi Andrew,
I have probably mentioned this before on the thread. My mate Dai Kinsey drove for Entress in the 70’s,then moved from here down to Sketty Swansea,he later drove for Illtyd Thomas and had an accident at Alcan works at Swansea, which put him in a wheelchair,he died about three years ago, just wondered if any of you South Wales boys remember him, looked a bit like Jimmy Saville. He had his bang about 1991.
Cheers Dave.

Hiya Andrew yes it was K. Fell &co and also J.B. Hudson Ltd. and J. L. Ion Ltd. all in the same deal . The 3 firms were owned at the time I took them over by Davy & co. (Grange) Ltd. Old man Davy had died in '64 and his son John carried on and did infact expand the firm with aquitions of Hudson’s& Ions and one or two odd A licence buys then in about '1970 I think he lost interest and from running a fleet of around 30 he let it dwindle down to 4 tractors/7 trailers 2 6wheeler & 2 4 wheeler flats . I wanted the firm mainly for the freehold depot adjacent to a big customer of both of us ( Libby’s).Cheers Dennis.

hello boys,
re: g800 hth i absolutely loved that 1748 merc.billy was an old mate of my father’s as were all the management and long serving staff from joints.my father went and drove for them 2 days after i was born in 1965.he left in the early 70’s to start what has since become our family business.i used to get alot of stick for being so young and being billy’s nightman/weekend driver.she would fly over the beacons and anywhere else for that matter.going to swindon one night i passed a harringway f16 triple deck cattle float on the bank after the old 7 bridge, half an hour later as i was leaving leigh delamare services the f16 driver flagged me down and asked what was in that fully freighted merc, cause i’m f…g! empty and mine goes well!billy had two man’s after that.dennis,i remember seeeing both bewick and k fell motors.was the hudson’s the same firm as the recovery people who own a green diamond t that i’ve seen on the old north of england road run many times?they used to tag onto us at shap and park up at carlisle truckstop with us on the saturday night.
regards andrew.
