He had brother called Norman the bear who drove for Glyn John he was also as mad as they came…
one story i heard was that he went into a takeaway when he was parked up,a few boys tried it on and pulled the hood of his coat over his head…a few minutes later the only ones standing was norman and the guy behind the counter, one of the boys went through the window the rest were on the deck!

please tell us more about this bonneted deutz.
the deutz was my dads when he worked with graham jones plant hire. that pic was taken in 1973 at abercrave colliery. it had an air cooled v8 with 6 wheel drive, and originally came from scotland where it was an off road dumper.according to my dad there was supposed to be only two in the country at the time. when it was back at the workshop the dumper body came off and the fifth wheel added.
righty oh, these belonged to two fellas from cardiff who subbied for john raymond at one time, eric and alan (i forget the surnames) they were father and son. alan was working for john raymonds after they packed up their own lorries. eric the father was a real gent. the blue 2800 was a flyer according to a few boys who drove it, the transcon was bought for the ■■■■■■■ engine and was put in the roadtrain, not sure if my dad done that for them, but i remember him saying it was a shame to scrap the transcon as it was in good nick.
yes andrew you are correct, burrows driver was paddy short if i remember his surname correctly. if i remember right the tm had a detroit in it but not sure, then the merc turned up, dont think burrows had it all that long. the fl10 was my oldest brothers, them supercubes would take ages to empty when you are 11 years old! i had to earn my ride somehow! spent many a night top and tail in that with my brother.

got some pictures from the mid-80’s when dave took me out in his bath and portland stone 1930’s 8 wheeler, what a ride out that was, shouting across the cab!don’t think you’ll see him and shaun swain together in pencader anymore though, they had a big divorce a while back.the crusader was robbins of swansea,i posted a photo of the remains of the other one they have on this thread on an earlier page, though it’s the string vest version,if you know what i mean!
