Thanks Mrsteel. I found this pic on another site and this is the firm and they were in Loeominster which is near Wales so I was close. I drove an Albion 4-wheeler rigid flat with this style Ergo cab. Thanks for clearing up my confusion.

Remy
Good morning,
Thanks for your reply, it was good to get the old grey matter working. Seeing the photo of the Leyland with the Hereford reg: confirms it.
Cheers, Allan

Hi all,
Some old BRS images here.I think the workshop and yard photos were of Pontypool depot? And finally a Peter Davies shot of a SCOW Leyland Octopus ………

Andrew the SCOW 8 wheeler was an Albion Caledonian even though it looked like it was a “badged” Leyland it was apparently a different motor completely and I believe that Leyland Motors dropped it in favour of promoting the Octopus but the Albion was well thought of by operators during it’s years of production. I wonder how many SCOW ran in the day ? Cheers Dennis.

Hello Dennis,
Thanks very much.I presumed it was a Leyland,Can see the Albion “sure as the sunrise “ logo on the grille now.Hope you’re keeping well.
Regards Andrew.

Does anybody know if Phil Marks is still running?
He was from Llanwrda and used to do a few loads out of Dorset with pre-cast concrete for me which he would share with a couple of boys his way,Huw Thomas being one. Real nice fella and lost touch after I moved on

Hi Dorset,
I’m half sure? Phil is driving a wagon and drag for one of the large parcel companies.
Regards Andrew.

Thanks Andrew, hopefully he’s taking it a bit easier than he used to!

Bewick ,
Good morning, re : Albion Caledonian SCOW ran quite a lot but not sure of numbers.
Here in Bridgend The Raymond’s ran some John Raymond and his brother Richard who owned Vale Tpt:.
John’s was 770 CTG and Vales was 389 KNY which iirc ended up as a shunting tractor in the Abbey.
They were about a half a ton lighter than an Octopus mainly because of a different chassis and rear springs which made them a good alternative.
Regards, Allan

Hiya Mrsteel, Bore Da !
Well Scow wern’t so daft if they could get an extra half ton on the Albion 8 wheelers were they ! I have read a write up about the Albion Caledonian 8 wheelers being better motors than the Octopus but they got kicked into touch by Leyland and I’m not 100% sure but the earlier Albions used their own engines until they got discontinued as well !
Regards
Dennis.

Well Allan from what I recall from those far off days down in S.Wales I never heard much if any Welsh being spoken in The Abbey it was mainly broken English   and also two other languages were spoken as I recall , Bollox and Swahili, it was up in N.Wales and West Wales where Welsh is the first language isn’t it ?

Well Dennis Bach  , I shall step in here as a Born & Bread welshman speaking both welsh / english & a little Bollox as you put it  from Carmarthenshire, your absolutely correct west of Swansea   Llanelli / Carmarthen/ Cardiganshire (West Wales) is where Welsh is at it’s strongest Pembrokeshire is Less dense in the spoken language as it has a lot of re-located people within the population (known locally as Little England!) , then again as you move north from Aberystwith in to the county of Gwynedd which is North Wales it is again a very strong welsh population.

Glad to read that both you & Mrs B are both well up there  Take care. E.W.

Hi all,
Some great Jones Motors pictures have been kindly shared on Facebook earlier.I’d never seen any of them before and trust me,I’ve looked over the decades.NNY 248E was driven from new by my late father.Dave Cooper, aka “Dai Badge”.Dad is seen leaving the Kenfig Hill yard in these first two shots.

ERF-NGC-European:
…and as a matter of interest, Gammond’s also ran this (these?) 5MW-cabbed ERF:

3210

Close inspection showed that each one had the same number plate, although different parts of the cab!
