this one looks fully freighted with alloy frag.
Wow, not sure when that picture was taken, but I do know that we were using those trailers in the early 90’s…
Fold the sides down to load tin plate in Trostre or Ebbw Vale, run to Upton (Poole) or Southall, tip and put the sides back up, then swap for the trailer loaded with scrap, back to Llanelli to tip, and reload Trostre or Ebbw Vale. Start of each journey, get underneath to adjust the brakes…
Once came back from Southall with only two drum brakes left, the other two had disintegrated along the M4 somewhere.
I started in 1993 with Andrew when that side of the business was David Thomas and Son. My first truck was the Ford Cargo day cab with top sleeper… cant find a picture of it, started out with it running open top 20’ containers to Onllwyn, Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen and a place near Kidwelly.
Some South Wales steamers, I wonder what these lads would have thought sitting in a modern motor? I notice that Rosser’s only kept the 8 legger for 3 years before selling it on,

Hi all,
Some more from in and around Swansea,Courtesy of Michael Aldron.
Not often you see a picture of a Scammell Contractor as a straight artic rather than being used as a ballasted tractor. That one appears to have a Volvo F88 cab on it.

Hi all,
Some classic South Wales motors here,in black and white …
I reckon that ERF of Illtyd Thomas is ex Banks’s brewery, wolves reg number and on the side of the body those plates would have had uprights bolted to them to hang the chains on. I wonder if she is still sitting in the nettles in Cockett?

Morning Andrew / We had one for many years with Short Bros. Cat powered the fab. shop rebuilt the 88 cab so it had no doors access was through a sliding door at the rear fair play it would pull like a train we often used it for grab changes on the jetty also moving the NCK1405,s around the works always complete side carraige on the trailer .

Hello Ianto and Geoff ,the other 1 was driven by John Neate.
Micky Palmer drove one for a while and the 2 Ford D series looked huge for rigids and must have been a nightmare on multidrop.
This old photo taken at High Wycombe looks to me like a younger Victor ?

Hi all,
I heard the sad news yesterday that Dickie Darrel from Hereford had passed away.A lovely gentleman, who drove for W.G.Davies of Landore for well over 20 years.More recently Dickie was involved with the commercial section of Hereford truck show.I used to look forward to meeting up with him, every August,in better times…
