Afternoon Mr Steel
Mickey was from Penygraig and tramped on Christie Tyler for years and joined Brs bridgend on the Rockwool contract.
He had 1 of the Daf rigids for a while ,then onto a Erf and there was a picture of him on the A 449 on Paul Gee,s site last year.
His son Jeff worked on Rockwool too.
Hope that helps.
What year did curly bill finish ?

Nelsons garage taibach what firm run out of this place as there was a haulage company you can see a truck parked up,Andrew wish your old man happy birthday have a good day

Hi Smallcoal,
I know where that yard was in Taibach. It might have been the base for Nelson Transport? Though I’m not 100% sure.Colin Nelson lived n Nottage,I was in school with his daughters.Though I remember Joint buying some of their coilers,For Some reason,I recall a Nelson’s yard in Swansea? Thanks for the old man’s birthday wishes and thanks to Oily and some other members for kindly sharing more photos.
Regards Andrew.

Evening Dai, I think you’ve set me a bit of a poser there. I was born in 1946 and I can remember going with him in a Leyland Octopus , sometimes on the ’ Hereford Shuttle’ and also remember an overnight run to PSF Oxford and staying at 'Auntie Harriets ’ digs in Kidlington. Long time ago now !
Bill Anstie was depot manager in Bridgend at the time. The reason I asked about Walter Palmer is iirc he was connected to P&P Tpt: Bridgend where the old man worked after leaving the army. Walter Palmer I believe then ran the workshops in Bridgend Depot . Bill Anstie’s son Dai worked in the garage as did Billy Stevenson, do those names ring any bells ? As for when the old man left BRS I can’t say for sure, maybe late 50’s or 60
Regards, Allan

Afternoon Mr Rooker
Since 2002 i have been working on inter plane refuellings and tank farms etc.
I still drive but short distances unless called around the country to help out.Shortly the licence could come to good use with the aviation industry in melt down.
Afternoon Mr Steel I vaguely remember Mr Bill Anstie and always collect my thoughts there were battles down the steel Abbey with the transport manager there.[1 was a geordie and the other a wearsider, you could correct me.]
As for P and P i am sure Don Tuck worked there too.
Steve? Tasker rip was a fitter from the army and ended up night shift fitter foreman[brs] and perhaps he was from P and P.
The 81 photo above as a young cab rat for some reason very early hours we tipped Buxton brick in the abbey and remember crouching down to hide from security
I was amazed at the old scrap shunters down there including brs seddon,s and there was always for years that Norman,s atki borderer parked up
Regards
Dai

Bridgend,
Hi Alan, thanks for your post, my memory of Walter Palmer is of a big man who wore a dai cap and glasses, would that be correct ? Bill Anstie and Billy Stevenson both went on to work for John Raymond.
My father got me a job there in the late sixties and I remember Bill in the traffic office. I rang in on a winters day
and he answered the phone and I mentioned that my !!! feet were freezing and he replied that so was one of his!
I don’t know if you remember but Bill had an artificial leg
Regards and thanks again, Allan

Morning Tony / I can tell you a little story about Morley what a gentleman I remember once on a sunday pulling into Hedon road lorry park in Hull and there He was sitting at a picnic table in his pyjamas and dressing gown eating his supper I think when he retired he became a councillor in Swansea west/ Gower . a real character .
