South Wales Hauliers sixties and seventies onwards (Part 1)

Hi all,
Some great photos been kindly shared.Thank you all.I found these on a Facebook page about old views around Port Talbot.Raldo Cavali’s brilliant cafe,I can hear him singing the orders through the hatch to the kitchen staff now.At the end of World War Two,A concrete ramp was built on Llewellyn’s Quay to offload half tracks. The ramp is still there to this day.years later, this site became Joint Motorways yard.

Pete Smith,
Evening Pete, some interesting photos. Back in the day I was the night shunter for JR in the Abbey works.
The D.David Seddon was parked loaded opposite the weighbridge and at that time the park was a piece of rough ground with a bit of a slope. Seddon at that time had a Neates handbrake and were well known for having a sensitive trigger. Anyway the handbrake somehow released and she rolled across the road and straight through the window. Weighbridge out of action for the rest of the night in case the building collapsed

The driver with the BST Roadtrain is the late Bob Lloyd who was iirc was senior driver . Bob always had his daily
paper in the leg pocket of his overalls and was one of the ’ old school’. I was shunting in the Abbey for BST at that time so I remember him well. Finally Pete 359s F88, the trl: behind it think was roped and sheeted by me.
Regards, Allan

Hi all,
Some of Wynns here, for a change? Lol.

Hello Andrew, you said you had memories of the café on the Briton Ferry roundabout, you`re quite right about the owner. Even after all this time, if there are a few people having a cuppa in my house they get treated to a Welsh Italian accent saying the immortal phrase " NOW BOYS, NOTE THE CONSISTENCY OF THIS TEA" which is my everlasting memory of that place.
Best Wishes
Mike

Hi Mike,
I loved going there as a kid.Lorries from all over the country filled that place every day and night. My grandfather on my father’s side was friendly with Raldo,I can still hear him singing,”Tea,No sugarrr!”

Morning Mike . I can remember the breakfast in there did not have any bacon I think that was extra only sausage , egg , and beans .

Hi all,
Brian Williams kindly gave me these photos. He was a driver with Nationwide and then an owner driver on Middle East work running an MAN.Brian later subbed to Cardiff Transport. Then in 1992 gave up driving to work for BSD in Wombourne,I think? Now retired and lives in Porthcawl.

Pete 359,
Morning Coop,
Just looking at the CT photos and saw a pair of real characters ! , Zeb and Buster.
Zeb was well known as a betting man. I used to see him regularly at Capital Trading in Cardiff where the guy who tipped you was a mate of his and was also a betting man. The system was sort the bets out first then get get tipped. In the photo they could well be studying form , but as I said a pair of real characters.
Regards, Allan
