Hi all,
There were dozens of welsh valley firms on the furniture, years ago in the days before massive Chinese manufacturing and cheap international shipping. The D series was from Trealaw. It may have been driven by the late Kelvin Powell? I know he drove a D series on furniture for Nevline Transport. And also a Mackie Williams 240 powered 400 north bound Tadcaster A1.

Hi all,
Here’s a few more:

  1. A Tony Morgan 400 fuelling up near Perth.
  2. A mighty Antar working for DMD on the Ely link road.
  3. An R.G.Miles Foden.
  4. A couple of Blue LineTransport.

Hi all,
These images are Courtesy of The Ward family.Blue Line Transport Bought this Foden from them and Mrsteel,Drove it.

Morning Allan and Andrew,
Is this the same Wards that operated out of the old Monmouth Troy railway station?
( credit for pic is Nick Catford )
There was another Ward operated from Monmouth, Stuart Ward had a FH version 1 on egg haulage and then worked out of EMR Smethwick taking scrap bales to Port Talbot , think he has jacked it in and now works for Tesco’s at Chepstow, Cheer’s Pete

Pete Smith,
Good morning,
You are right about the location of Wards yard. A few other Monmouth based hauliers working out of Llanwern may also have used it. One real character working out of Llanwern was Billy Hatton. Apparently he would run his Volvo between Mot’s without paying it too much attention then pay whatever it cost to get through the next one. It was also said that he lived in a caravan sat on a forty foot trailer and was well known for running a tad on the heavy side when loading out coil out of Liverpool for the Midlands .
Saw it myself on a few occasions when tipping at Bore’s Walsall
Regards, Allan

Morning John / after speaking to my brother we seem to think this outfit was probably one that was based at Wooton Bassett looks like a Dragon trailer made by D David at Felin Fach farm .

Hello Andrew, what a cracking picture of the Orb Works entrance, so accurate with the battered overnight case and the notes on the Atki bonnet.
Are you sure its computer generated, it looks very much like a picture that Mike Jeffries produces which feature in the On The Move calendars, of which Ive got loads.
Best Wishes
Mike

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your reply.I know the artist and pictures that you refer to.I think that gatehouse is all that’s left of what we all once knew as “The Orb”. As a kid with J&M,it seemed that every time I went in “The Abbey” I always saw Wel-Don tippers,I think they were from Swansea?

Hi all,
A couple of classic welsh eight wheelers here…

A cracking shot of Hill’s AEC Andrew, Am I right in thinking they got absorbed in to Rhys Davies’s?
