Neil, I think you are right there. Didn’t they have a son who was into trials bike riding. We helped sponser him at Gulliver’s one year, supplied him with an extra van, Merc 307 to do the International six day trial in Scotland. Did you know him?
Regards Paul.
No, Paul, I didn’t know any of them. They later moved to a place at Rogerstone from the old yard and house at Cefn Fforest and workshop at Tir y berth.
Neil.

Nice to see that Deri blue paint being used. Alan had that colour mixed and specially named.
Looks as if they run all makes nowadays. Raymond, Alan’s son had a 8 wheeler Leyland octopus once, didn’t keep it long though, the 6 wheel Bison with a 500 fixed head stayed a little longer on a s plate iirc.
Raymond was into Deutz’s , all their 8 wheelers were Maggie’s from R to X reg, until a Foden arrived in August 83 the week I left to live in the big smoke.
Six wheelers were Dodges, and D series Fords all with Perkins V8s, these were followed by Cargo’s with air cooled Deutz’s which would carry 17,00o kgs.
From photo’s on this tremendous site, I see over the years they ran a bunch of Foden’s, Daf’s, Iveco’s, Merc’s,Volvo’s and looks like Scania’s now.
Its good to see they are still in business, a family one at that.
Regards Paul.

Here’s another that Paul John will know all about,Ron skinner from tafarnaubach.
Hi Andrew, yes I know Ron Skinner. Ron and my father were about the same age, and over the years my father and the family business bought petrol and diesel off him for their light vehicles.
His first garage was in Cefn Gola as you enter Tredegar from Rhymney, originally a fuel station, Ron added a workshop and then car sales.
He then expanded with a second location in Rhymney on the by-pass south of Butetown. In fact on the same road that you shot the video on, just off the heads of the valley’s road.
His third location was and I believe is the only one open now at Tafarnaubach ind este, where he really started selling cars in big numbers, importing from Belgium, buying early return lease and fleet cars.
I believe he was a hard taskmaster to work for, but a successful businessman.
Just like yourself, and many friends here, my cousin and I spent a lot of time as kids with our Fathers and Grand father in their business.
We were always in the delivery vans, anything from Morris 1000s, J4s to Threepenny bit FGs with fridge bodies traveling the valleys with fresh and frozen meats.
At the end of the day, before getting a chance to drive around the yard we would fuel up. Every vendor we used, gave us boys a mars bar, packet of crisps or drink, except Ron Skinner.
Needless to say neither of us did much business with him in our later years.
Regards Paul.
