hi all,
some of the bridhend BRS staff,i’m guessing mid to late 1970’s?
0

I recognise 3 of the instructors, third one along to the right is peter[i think is surname is richards].
The seddons were replaced by 2 110 scania,s and 1 A series erf.
Got the photos but not having much success uploading them.
The building in the background was used by supabodies and now a car sales.
On a lighter note around the same era a trainee failed is test and caused mayhem when he admitted is knowledge was not up to scratch to pass.
The problem for the company was when he wrote a letter and explained he had 2 weeks touring Brains ale houses in Cardiff.

hi guys, re; memory lane cakes, I was a former employee of wonderloaf maindy lane Cardiff, sister company was wonder cakes maes y coed road heath Cardiff , the memory lane cakes were originally wonder cakes in Cardiff , the van livery was originally the same as wonderloaf , only wonderloaf was blue white and orange , and wonder cakes were red and a sort of creamy white colour, spillers owned both, then spillers changed the bread division to homepride bakeries, colour brown with a bakers picture on the side with bread all around him, same time spillers changed the cake division to memory lane cakes, then the bread division merged wonderloaf with coop bakeries and lyons bakeries ,then they changed the colours back to blue white and orange , then they called the company spillers French baking , then they went out of business , and sold the cake division to Finsbury foods, merrett’s became sunblest and is next door to memory lane cakes , in maes y coed road Cardiff ,they now are known as kingsmill bakery’s , mothers pride bought all the wonderloaf vehicles from our bakery, they then bought the old coop bakery in taffs well near Cardiff ,that bakery and my old bakery maindy in Cardiff are knocked down now ,they are student and housing sites now, my old bakery was a cracking big bakery great place to work, I started as a van boy, then a loader, then a slicer , and I worked as an oven plant hand finished up as a plant cleaner, most vehicles were fg’s some bedfords , bakery served retail and wholesale, wish I had a picture of maindy lane Cardiff bakery and vans , brilliant place to work,

Dai Echo has asked me to post to tell of the passing yesterday of his long time family friend Andy Moffatt known as ‘Onslow’. He was a well known and much liked man who drove for several South Wales firms including Cardiff transport and SW Bowketts. RIP Onslow.

Bet he’s not too happy with it nonetheless, but a friend of mine who drove and used the yard as an operating centre up until earlier this year said that the private plates and different things were being removed etc… everyone knew something was going on but they (Andrew & Jonathan) wouldn’t say anything until the announcement (much to the shock of a lot of people including me) he also said that Jonathan had had enough, of ridiculous rates etc… and Andrews heart was no longer in it and has interests away from Transport (hope its not a solicitor as he failed that exam in 1985). Your right about the picture of the new trucks and Nolan name upon it! I see they (Nolans) must have bought a fleet that wore red / green colours, passed a few last week and today, looks like they had good use by the first owner let alone what Seamus will use them for
