What’s the betting this BRS Seddon had the RR 220 engine ? Cheers Dennis.

Hi Dennis Smiles for Miles had 5 of them all with RR,220,s in,IIRC They had a few problems & went on to ERFs & Atkis,The last ERF They had had the 8 LX Gardner in M reg, Sadley they packed up in 1975, Regards Larry.

Aye Larry those Seddon RR 220’s were bad news, I acquired one when I bought out another firm and I couldn’t get rid of the poxy thing fast enough eh! it was the first motor out the door ! Cheers Dennis.

One of the problems that Smilers had was when replacing king pins they had to remove the axle & put onto a press to get the bushes out, What a job, The down time was horrendous, They were a motor that their fitters didn’t like may I add, I wonder why,   , Regards Larry.

Sounds like a bloody nightmare Larry ! never had to do owt like that in our workshop eh! Cheers Dennis.

Neither did we Dennis, Both my sons were time served fitters, Which was a bit of a bonus because I was only semi skilled , But we had all the gear to tackle any job,IIRC, We only had to replace kings pins on a couple of our motors, Of course they were all greased at the correct intervals, Plus we used Moluballoy based grease which I reckon was the best stuff money could buy in those days, We did have two with Autolube fitted, Which worked OK, But I preferred the old high pressure Kismet grease gun, Which a pal of mine still uses after all these years, Regards Larry.

Hi all. John and Andrew thanks for the reply on Tanners.
I remember dropping some trucks off whilst at Gulliver’s, then they would call me when they were ready to pick up. That was in 1990/91, but in 1988 I took three of my fathers vans down to have tachograph’s fitted, a Transit and two Iveco 3510s as they were pulling tandem axle trailers which put them over the 3500kg weight into a GTW which I cant remember requiring a tacho when the trailer was loaded. Stupid law as you didn’t need to keep the tacho’s as records.
Now when they were towing mini excavators the tacho wasn’t needed. As I said a stupid law!
It was quite an expense at that time for complete installation, but Tanners did a great job, as you said Andrew they have been in business a long time.

Regards Paul.

Hi Paul John here’s a shot of tanners for you cheers John
