The newer (micky mouse model) Glyn S John Foden eight wheeler was when new driven by, if I remember correctly “Alfie” , a bigish guy who always looked very smart. The Foden had a 220 ■■■■■■■ and was fitted with a Jake Brake. It operated out of the depot under the viaduct in Taffs Well, mainly transporting Cable from Aberdare Cables to Electricity Board Depots all over the UK. The depot transport manager at the time was another bigish guy " Neville", the company was owned by (So I was led to believe) Lord Aberdare who also owned Aberdare Cables and South Waler Switchgear , I don’t think P Leiner in Treforest had any say in the company other than they had a dedicated fleet of Ford D’ Glyn S John vehicles based in Treforest servicing their Gelatine Factory
I worked for the following transport companies during the 60’s & 70’s :
R F Turner- Dinas Powys
Bowles -Llandough
Ross Garages - Penarth Road , Cardiff x2
E. Boyle -Penarth Road, Cardiff
Glyn S John - Taffs Well ,Nr. Cardiff
Valley Carriers - Sully, Barry x2
Smith of Maddison -Newport
Welsh International - Penarth Road , Cardiff
Wish I had some picture to share , but alas I have only fading memmories.
Hello Roybach, I remember Neville when he was driving the Scammell low loader 4 in line which was used for the bigger drums of cables and also for the larger transformers, I believe he was from up the Rhondda possibly Treherbert, You may have remembered a very good fitter that worked for Glyn John by the name of John Davies who was from the Mountain Ash area, Also my late uncle worked there driving an Octopus 837HTX ,There was quite a few different companies that were ■■■■■■■ to Glyn John and a few of them were based at Viaduct yard, I have at present been given some very old negative prints off my aunty which are currently being seen to so hopefully i will get one of my good friends to upload the photos to trucknet, I uploaded one the other day of a Guy Invincible that belonged to Glam-Mon Haulage who were based in Viaduct Yard but it was very small so that will be put up for viewing as well.
Hiya,
I think this is a Maudslay Meritor even when blown up I can’t make out how it’s
badged I did drive in my very early days a Maudslay Mikado a slightly older
model but it did look very similiar the one I drove was put on the road in 1939
and it was 1957 when I drove it for a short while.
thanks harry, long retired.

My tilt trailer restoration is progressing. We had to take apart the framework this week, after doing that I would like to say I have a new level of respect for those drivers who regularly stripped and rebuilt tilt trailers as part of their working life, especially in hot or wet/windy weather.
Rowland.
Just read in the local paper that Clive Hughes of Hughes Haulage( Llanelly) Ltd has passed away! sure lots of you will remember his light blue fleet of Crusaders & Mandators from Llanelli in West Wales.
He lived in the next village to us here, but also had interests in Australia.
After Hughes Haulage did not Clive Hughes set up a building firm doing industrial estates and also had farming intrests and was not Hughes Haulage what Owens bought to start there company i may be wrong

Hi Steve,
I’m guessing you mean Tont M Rees’ new merc? Sorry I forgot to put words with the photo.here is one of a kW from I think west wales pulling for John Raymond…
Always admired the photo’s on here so here’s my contribution, Spent a few hours at my dads today having a look through some of his photos and came across a few of his old trucks.
Hi scotty dog,
Thank you for sharing your excellent photos.this one is courtesy of Nigel Heaton,a mate of mine from Bolton.two of hipwood and grundy’s 8 wheelers at the storey arms, many years ago…
Not a problem, in sure there’s more scattered around his house, I remember seeing some of Chris Morgan’s Scania 143 and possibly some old caddwaleder (of beddau) so I’ll see what I can dig out
