Are my eyes deceiving me or is that LV cabbed an N reg ? The A series came out in '72 on the “K” plate so were ERF still building the previous model as well ? Cheers Bewick. :open_mouth:

Yes. Robert

I think we’re onto it Robert but a bit more info would be appreciated, thanks, Dennis.

Hiya,
Just remember Dennis if it’s got a 240 percy inboard it just could be that Big J
Guy made up to look like a ERF, a bit of sandpaper might just what’s needed to
out the myth once and for all.
thanks harry, long retired.

I think you will have more chance of finding the Holy Grail than an 8LXB Big J “H” ! Cheers Dennis.

Hi Dennis,
I did wonder the very same thing tbh.I can’t ever recall seeing a 1974 LV in the past.I am guessing lewis’ either registered it a few years after buying it new (popular back then) or bought an unregistered unit that had been standing for some time? When I was last at their yard that ERF was heavily stripped, Good to see it completed. I am told H. Lewis can trace their trading history back to steam powered days.
Regards Andrew.

Hi Andrew,
Talking to the Gent what owns that ERF at Kelsall and he went to the factory to pick it up with his Dad and if I remember correctly it worked till 1994, Cheer’s Pete

Sorry Dennis! The poster on here called ‘ERF’ would put us right. In the meantime, the older LV-cabbed units continued to be built alongside the newer A-series for quite some time I understand. Also, the ‘facelift’ LV cabs associated with A-series were sometimes put on the older style chassis just to confuse things. In addition, older chassis were occasionally re-cabbed with the newer LV cabs. We have to remember that the letters ‘LV’ referred only to the cab, not to the chassis.

I seem to remember ‘ERF’ posting on here info to the effect that the older 5LV & 6LV cabs were still being made after the 7LV & 8LV cab came out in 1970. Cheers, robert

and I just bet it had a RR 220 engine Andrew, the cheapest, nastiest 32 tonner money could buy at the time, and it would have had a DB 6:600 box as well, we’ll not go any further backwards to the axle otherwise I will have to ask Anne to fetch the “Sick Bucket” Agh ! Agh! Cheers Dennis. ( Nice atmospheric shot though!)

Hi all.
Steelboyf10, thanks for posting a great shot of Gabe’s F86. Andrew did a nice job on it. Quite an accomplishment to be involved in the historic London Cart Marking event.
Andrew, Smith"s Scania looks superb, far superior to anything we have in Florida. I work on some of the biggest construction and road work jobs in the State but nothing used here on heavy haulage comes close to the tackle of Smiths or Graham’s company Walter’s from Hirwaun.

Regards Paul
