My dad drove a marathon for a while at BRS Bridgend I’m sure there was only the one

I have a photo of XEU 632T marathon [RXG325] with a high wind slammer on roof for better fuel economy.
It had certain Leyland Roadtrain parts on it.Given to the heavy footed Malcom Hall [olly].
I kid you not he booked it off for vibrations on dashboard and when the Leyland engineer came down for the test runs the Bridgend fitter Phil Edwards went on the cowbridge by pass with olly driving.Over the top of crack hill olly give it the gunnels and phil told me the rattling was due to,well i will just say driving out of the legal speed limit.[The trailer was fully loaded].
This guy in the medical so called white coat was bemused.[leyland engineer].
I remember your dad i believe he had a 82 brand new on Rockwool,if i am correct?
They looked the business at the time.

Morning Bridgend your Erf had a number plate on the front[ picture of a mule, nobody likes a smart ;;;]Have to get some photos on here.
24 Years since you done the Aberdeen special with the Demo Iveco.Passed the old yard last week and wondered what Bill Anstey[old manager]would think of it.All them old firms back loading like Smith of Madiston,Bartrums,Bolton Roadways not forgetting North eastern, Scottish,North Western and Eastern Brs.Even longer time ago with them Seddons TBO 408H UHU864N etc in the old depot code[SK].
Remember as a kid waiting for backloads in Samuel Williams,Convoys,Baillie TPT,Edwards of Hull greenwich depot,HTS,Chambers Illingworth etc.
Then it was Heinz at harlesden on which Hills won the contract about 1981.Still got the old back load numbers in diaries.
Often puzzled me what hours Percy Bailey were, when driving up Tooley street at 1am when he was on days?
Then the shaker would get to Bridgend at midnight and having a indicator stalk fitted on is Seddon[he had snapped another 1]
He lived above a pub in Shepherds Bush and went to work for National Carriers, right character, frightened me when he washed is teeth, especially from a
young 7 year olds point of view.He came to grief on the Ely roundabout with a load of cable drums 1 morning if my memory serves me right.
Send Pat my regards.
Dai

Hi Ian, thanks for the reply. One of the Davies’s had a garage at the back of Trevor Phillips in Cadoxton which you could see from the by-pass. I couldn’t remember the village name though! Trevor had probably finished by that time.
Daibootsy will know the answer.

Regards Paul.
