Yes Dan, they had a hopper to tip into around the back of the building, along side the river Taff. Last load I delivered there was from the Midlands about 1990.

Regards Paul.

Ref:- G N Ricketts of Ewenny, the yard was about 300yds before the post office in Ewenny, it was up a small ramp, image of YNY998 on the ramp fueling up, image can been seen on page 37. Three very nice detached houses now built on the old yard.

Some of drivers I recall around 1960 to 1966 are Bill Norman, Oscar Jones, Albert Wallace, a very young Terry Hughes, went on ttleo become one of John Raymonds longest serving drivers. Wally Beer and Ray Thomas, both joined the BRS later. Fitter was Glynn David from Llantwit Major.

Some of the trucks I rember, Leylands, AEC and a Guy eight wheelers, artics a Scammell handyman, two Seddons, a Guy numerous tippers, cattle trucks.

YNY998 was cut down from a eight wheeler to an artic, all work in house by Glyn David. Company was sold to C H Bailey Ltd Cardiff and became Nationwide Transport, I am not aware of any link to Cardiff Transport later. E142

Thanks for the information E142,heard of the name C H BAILEY into marine work etc.My dad ray left Ricketts in 1963 and my mother told me on the phone today it was up a ramp by the ewenny post office. He had a boat there, the last time i saw Wally beer he was shunting in the abbey for joints [1986]although i did not know him well,my mother keeps in touch with his wife.Noel would quite often knock the door in cefn glas to do another trip after just getting to bed from the last 1.I have a photo somewhere of 1 of his trucks and was told there was friendly rivalry with the j r drivers.

Wally beer there’s a blast from the past I shunted with wally at joints he was always first on the weigh bridge ,taff was second ,I beat him by five minutes one day ,but they still pulled him round me to be first ,a good man he was always helpful
