N.C.B. OBO 251M, S.WalesWhat a well fitted body ,really smart .
Hi all, Dai great photos as usual.
Dan, that body on the Foden OBO 251M was a K&J Withey body made in Masseycymmer S. Wales. Iirc she was based at Britannia Colliery, along with a 6 wheel D series Ford fitted with a v8 ■■■■■■■■I had the same body on OBO 296M a 6 wheel Dodge, ex NCB and when she was retired the body went on to a P reg running coal from Taylor Woodrows open cast Dowlais, to Risca power station. It was originally fitted with an air operated tail board. A true coal body, no spill boards necessary, and about 8/9 years old.
Regards Paul.
Hi Paul,
My parents and I were at a funeral two weeks ago.to pay our respects to gordon swain,a friend to my family for many years, back in 1983 he bought this withey bodied freighter brand new.
Hi all, Andrew Withey’s steel bodies were legendary. All the councils and quarries and their contractors used them, from Transits to 8 wheelers.
Regards Paul
