D.J. Daniels & Son Pontyberem they had a load of them this one had the rolls 220 in it , they also had 295 and 296 at the same time , havent seen this photo in years as Daniels ceased trading around 1988 !
I worked for them on maintenance in 81/82 during the weekends lovely memories seeing this pic. if you have any others please post them…thanks,
Anyone remember - G Morris and Sons from Pontyberem. They had AECs and Leylands - all flat beds. They built the yard in Crosshands before the roundabout. When they retired from haulage, Williams Bros took over the yard,- also long retired now. — Hywel —

The body on that 8 legger is a K&J Withey of hengoed, I don’t know if they are still trading.
K&J Withey were minutes from where I grew up. The rear light bar on the 142 was made up there Graham. Sadly they finished quite a while ago. The site is just rough ground now.
Neil.

Hi all, Graham is right that is a K&J Withey body. That Scammel looks as if its an ex Williams Brothers Cross Hands motor. That cross member at the front may of been their choice, I cant remember seeing it on other bodies.
My opinion only, but in the 80s Wilcox was the superior product, K&J Withey were not to far behind and Rothdean gave Crane Freuhaf a run for their money on a trailer tipper chassis.

George Morris & sons was from Bancffosfelen 1/2 mile away from my home interesting news that they previously owned the Williams Bro’s yard in Crosshands ! as i did not know that , Ialways thought that Andrew & Moelwyn Williams had been going since the late 40’s
Interesting village Pontyberem & Bancffosfelen some 4000 population and numerous Haulage contractors including -
George Morris & Sons
John Evans & sons
Ronnie S Evans (still trading)
Ernest E Maidment
D J Daniels & Son
Interestingly all of the above had their Bases within 3/4 of a mile of each other

Hello E.W.
Williams Bros were called " Six Way " as they started at Six way garage Gorslas. In the 60s they moved to the Carmarthen Road Crosshands - where Ennis Caravans were. The last move was to G Morris’s old yard, which was the Crosshands Colliery site. They have put that crazy mad roundabout in the middle of it now.
---- Hywel ----
Hi EW.Heol y banc was littered with haulage contractor’s. You had eifion davies next to western garage, h.l.williams in g.morris old yard and Dilwyn Picton transport on the common.

I can remember them doing carbon black out of Jersey Marine , and also from that brickyard that used to be at Cynghordy . Yes , AEC and Leylands , i think George used to book registrations as they all seemed to end in zero .
The last wagons i can remember was a Guy J , and F86 Volvo artics . regards Keith .
