that transcon is stunning lovely piece of engineering Andrew perhaps one day il have oneas for the Swedish bedfords as you sacasticly coment I wont reply coz sacasam does not come into my vocabalery but as any intelligent person knows the111 141 142 143 110 140 scaniaaaaaaaa are were the THE KINGS OF THE ROAD sorry mate face it regards rowly
Roland I dont usually comment on such delicate matters but i would have to agree with Andrew on this subject " the West Wales transcon is a beauty and as for 110 140 111 &141,s being Kings of the road I think he has a point about being deluded the old Scania’s were a good motor, but i cant remember any of the old Transcon (especially XHB) being out run by a scania of the same era, the Transcon was the truck of the 70’s although your 141 is a beauty. I am sure i am in for some flack now
Regards Stephen

Hi dan,
Rich tea biscuits ? Am I missing something here
20plus years ago joint motorways used to do 4 plus loads a week, coil out (in a bulker) to usually Belgium then reload bones from pb gelatines in Vilvoorde, just off the Brussels ring.the animal carcass’ would come into vilvoorde by barge and grab machines used to load them onto a conveyor.i will never forget the smell and thousands of rats jumping into the canal as the carcass’ were lifted off the barge!there was a liquid that during hot weather would run out of the back of the trailer and leave indelible stains in the aluminium! Was told back then that diced animal bones were used in pork pies and cosmetics.see mainly Belgian hauliers tipping bones at treforest these days.in my Father’s days of driving for joint it was carried in sacks on flats, usually from Liverpool.

I can’t remember where I found that photo otto.I have driven a Trader myself on a few occasions when my lorry at the time was in for service etc. A good motor as far as I recall. I used to ride shotgun with one of Roberts of Knighton drivers in 1960/61 just before I left school in a brand new Thames Trader which pulled like a train with a two speed axle etc.
Cheers Dave.
Hi all,
M4 dogwalker kindly emailed me to say his scanner has died and as soon as it’s replaced,we will have more images from him .thanks eilir.for now another for rowly from sweden’s premier truck brand
Hi Pete 359, Re your comment regarding crushed bones etc into Leiners at Treforest suddenly stirred a memory for me. Back in 1964/5 I backloaded a part load of drums of gelatine from a factory at Treforest to Bolton or Blackburn so long ago I forget exactly where to Would this be the same place you are writing about? I also loaded exhaust pipe tube behind the drums for a factory at Blackpool. Where would I have loaded the tubes and from whom.? I had a BMC Morris FHK 140 (horizontal engined) four wheeler.
Cheers, Leyland 600.

The pipes were probably from Aberdare, will take another day to remember the name. :

Hi leyland600,
Thanks for your comment.I was born in 1965 and can only vaguely recall the name leiners.i have always known it as pb gelatine.they were and still are based near the river at upper boat on treforest industrial estate.i think? Many years ago? They were based near rhydfelin nearer Pontypridd town centre.given what you said,it’s more than highly likely to be the same company.the only exhaust manufacturer I know of that’s in that area-ish,is/was? Bosal at Tredegar on the side of the a465 heads of the valley road.not sure if bosal are still there now? Hope this helps.
Regards andrew.
There was also an exhaust pipe factory called Stelco Hardy at Treherbert who had been going since 1947. Not sure if they were called something else before.
Neil.

Hello leyland 600 .
The tubes may have been Helliwels at Aberdare.
Andrew.
Leiners main factorie,s were at Treforest estate, the gelatine was a by product of the bones.
Leiners also had a place at Rhydyfelin (the old tin works)where I think gjt moved to from Taffs Well.
Clive.
