davis and meredith good bunch of boys there used to be one boy in summer sleep on back of trailer in lowton also brad used to drive for them great guy regards rowly

Hi Rowly, back in 1979 I used to get a lift back up the smoke with Ken Leddinton, who drove an old Borderer day cab with a Gardner 180 for Davies and Meredith. He was a bit of a character and used to sleep in the coil well. his sleeping bag was rotten. If the trailer was loaded he would sleep under it on a tarpaulin. He wasn’t a full 16oz, but it was a laugh a minute with him.

Regards Paul.

They don’t breed them like him anymore. Some of these young drivers should try sleeping in a coil well when they start moaning that their bunk isn’t comfortable in their sleeper cab.
Cheers Dave.

hi all,
bernard lewis who drove for john raymond for 40 plus years once told me they used to do that, apparently it was great in the winter when they delivered hot roiled coil

Hi,
I’m not sure.sounds about right though.there were loads of smaller operators in south wales during the 70’s and 80’s.
Regards Andrew.

Hi all, I also remember that Trancon. Just as important for me is the HY-MAC on its trailer. Once built in Rhymney, employing many craftsman.

Regards Paul.

hi paul,
these older photos are the best :sunglasses: .good effort howard mate.thanks.

Hi all, Andrew you are right about the old photos, as the motors have character. This Bison was probably new in 1979/80 V or W reg, but what about that Morris 1000 pick up in the background, superb. All haulage companies had run around vans for parts, blowouts and breakdowns. Oh, and trips to the chip shop and off license. Brilliant.

Regards Paul.

i have just remembered ! it was then called Wm Brian Davies Robinson, it was a combination of two haulage families, same red colour scheme and f86s plated at 32 tonnes.
i remember working on them when i was an apprentice up at the old griffin mill. Happy days!
