I knew you’d reply quickly Rowly. Yes, I keep in touch with “Whippett” reguarly who drives for Wayne and he was saying recently Kelvin was in great shape. Kelvin came to my stag night in 1998, he nearly killed me spiking each drink and then with a drink that looked like a pint with smoke coming out of it smelling like a chemical explosion after he went put some bitter in the bottom and got the barman to go across the top shelf optics. He made me drink it and I did it. I survived the night to which Kelvin was surprised but felt wiped out for the next day and a half. My mates and family all loved him and his stories, he stole the show.

Hi all, I also remember that Trancon. Just as important for me is the HY-MAC on its trailer. Once built in Rhymney, employing many craftsman.

Regards Paul.

Hi Saviem, thanks for the good wishes, been back to work two weeks now slowly getting in to the routine.
Central Florida is many miles away from Rhymney, but I grew up there my fathers family engineering business supplied many parts to HY-MAC, along with inbound and outbound transport. We bought their own account fleet off them and continued working there until they closed down.
Just like the U.K.s truck industry, the construction (plant), and forklift manufacturers had similar problems, perhaps with the exception of JCB.
If we could only turn the clocks back, or fought harder to save what we had including steel making.

Regards Paul.

Hi Rowly, back in 1979 I used to get a lift back up the smoke with Ken Leddinton, who drove an old Borderer day cab with a Gardner 180 for Davies and Meredith. He was a bit of a character and used to sleep in the coil well. his sleeping bag was rotten. If the trailer was loaded he would sleep under it on a tarpaulin. He wasn’t a full 16oz, but it was a laugh a minute with him.

Regards Paul.

They don’t breed them like him anymore. Some of these young drivers should try sleeping in a coil well when they start moaning that their bunk isn’t comfortable in their sleeper cab.
Cheers Dave.
