Sorting the wheat from the "chaff"

Jobcentre plus points, full of utter tosh and waste of time positions that do not exist, and are repeated ,to hype up the available job statistics for the government, what ratio is real jobs,it takes time to find a proper job these days.Might go to Beachy Head for flying lessons without any wings. :unamused:

Too true!
Job centres and 98% of agencies are ■■■■.My boy knows all about it after being made redundant almost 12 months ago.
■■■■ jobs?,he’s had them then got a bollocking from the agency as,“The customer says you’re not suitable!”
He’s been told by the job centre that he is doing more for himself than they can do.
The real jobs are on some internet sites, you have to keep your eyes on them.
A cracking job turned up a couple of weeks ago.
Local firm wanted a 7.5 driver with minimum qualifications of:
Clean licence,
Driver CPC,
Fork lift licence,
Digi card.
It was down to my boy and another bloke, but although the other bloke did not have all the minimum requirements, but had worked for them before,he was given the job as they knew what he could do, but not my boy.
Crap result, but this is what you’re up against!
There’s one agency in our local paper that’s had the same advert in nearly every night for the last 6 months wanting:class 1,class 2 and 7.5 drivers for full time positions, immediate start.
My boy has rang several times,as has several mates of his and the reply is,“We’ll call you if anything comes up”

Know exactly how you feel

How many times I check online or phone around, Agencies advertising jobs, Well if there are so many jobs, I would be working everyday im available to work

It so gets you down, looking, phoning and getting the same old crass, send us your CV and driving licence etc, and sign up, and wait for the phone call, and hey up, Im still dam waiting for a phone call from most of them, and those who do give me work, its usually a few hours notice, Not good when I have a family and life, If I knew yesterday I would be at work at say 5pm today, I would prepare for it, A few hours notice is no good at all, esp if my partner is at work and I have my son to look after

Dam agencies and Job centre with Non existant jobs

They are supposed to give money for PPE kit,and pay for fuel to attend an interview, but it is like getting blood from a stone, and give up argueing with them, they dont seem helpful. They pay for a new suit,as they have a deal with a top clothing shop.

Basically, agencies do not have any work at the moment and are advertising these non-existent posts for two reasons.

Firstly because their office staff have to justify their existence by doing something rather than just sitting around playing Hearts all day on the office PC and waiting for the phone to ring.

Secondly, they are harvesting information. They are adding as many contacts as possible to their books in the event that there is an upturn in the economy at some point in the future and they will have a database of drivers sufficiently large to match it without having to advertise heavily at that point. Amassing this information costs them nothing.

The DWP are happy to go along with this because it creates the illusion of job vacancies and by extension insinuates that unemployed people do not wish to work, rather than admitting that central Government has destroyed the jobs market with automation, immigration and outsourcing.

They can get a bit snotty up the Dole Office if you let them. I signed on a month or so ago and the stuffed shirt tried to lay a trip on me so I said “Listen mate, in a year’s time you won’t be here, in a year’s time there will be a video link here and some bloke in Bangalore will ask me if I have done any work” and at that he looked thoughtful.

Another one up to Harry!

I went to sign on and the Snotty Women asked if i bothered checking the adverts as there are loads of hgv driving postions advertised on the Jobcentre website.
I got ■■■■■■ off trying to explain to her that they were all agencies advertising jobs that didnt exsist !!!

She still didnt believe me :smiling_imp: :imp:

Very sad to read the above posts. Its several years since I was last unemployed but the situation is just the same only worse with the job-centre.

im registed with drivelink in castleford and every week they phone and ask if im avalible for next week i say yes and then they will be in touch :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: every week is the same.

so last night im looking on the job centre and they advertising for roadways in leeds doing nightly dock shunts so today i phoned them put them in a corner and they admitted they dont have any work on and just want drivers on their lists.

tossers.

Harry you have no idea how close to the mark you really are. DWP are trying to shut all job centres and belive it or not are tring to tender for call centre work off private companys.

bloody ell she must do some commute i had the very same conversation last week :open_mouth:

i check jc non jobsite daily the only actual job in that search was in halifax and near min wage day work now bear in mind i’m in manchester woman in jc got quite snotty when i said that i wouldn’t be applying appantly if i dnt apply for three jobs a week i will be up in front of the decision maker

and the stuff i do apply for get swamped not good times

On a slightly different theme. I have been visiting Swadlincote Job Centre with a vague offer of retraining, return to work or retiring. My last visit suggested that as I had completed 4 visits. It was pointless going back. I was shocked and said I feel you have written me off!

She said I could ring her to book another 4 sessions, but there were no jobs and she didn’t think she would still be employed in April

Harry Monk for President, Lord Protector and Guru

They check firms you have wrote/rung/emailed/faxed or walked to,to see if you have done what you have said on your active job search sheet,no pay,if not applied, and stop the pay.The have laid on extra staff,to to this task,it gives someone a job, innit.!

I havent had a days work since the 14th Jan.
Got a text (cos they cant be arsed to actually speak to anyone anymore) last week asking me to drop off some outstanding tachos into the office.
Off I went & had a look at all the vacancies the agency had in the window, everything there, class 1, 2, 3 van drivers, days, nights, weekends, flt drivers, warehouse & factorty staff…All sorts.
So I asked about the various positions & why I couldnt do something different to trucking as Ive had enough of it anyroads.
“No can do John” they told me, they need to keep me free incase any class 1 jobs come in.
So I went off on a bit of a rant, 3 chuffin years Ive been with this agency, always been quiet after crimbo but not gone this long without work before.
Anyway during my rant I managed to get it out of him that all the jobs in the window were non existent jobs & they just want as many people on the books as possible for when it gets busy again, whenever that might be.
I could of smacked him in the gob, just how many agency staff are sat at home waiting for these non existent jobs to kick into action I wonder.

Local rags are full of agency work, Ive rang them all but not had a call back asking if Im available for work.

Harry for PM

LEGEND

Ive been after a part time non hgv driving job for a while, white van man stuff, to pay for a few things we want to do to the house. Ive touted myself round the agencies, not even the 7.5t, van driver or part time jobs exist. They all promise the earth and cant deliver so i totally agree with the sentiments here.

I use the local papers websites now, they seem up to date, ive had a couple of interviews but as i work 6 on 3 off i aint no use to a lot of companies even though i have experience and have been trained to a higher level than most.

I thought you lads were on a good screw money wise Mick? I see some idiot plowed through the cones on the M1 last night(Not wishing to ruin the thread, sorry lads)

I’ve been making the rounds of all the local firms that I used to work for through one agency and so far managed to get myself 7 days (nights actually) of work from one client. The rate isn’t that fantastic but it’s something and with luck they’ll use me again. The remainder of places have my number so hopefully something will come out of this. Out of the 5 agencys that I’m signed up with only one has managed to keep me working at least 3 days a week. There is one agency in Bracknell (Harmans Water) that has it’s window plastered with adverts for jobs but when it comes to the crunch there is nothing that is an actual job.

Kind of had that when I tried to get on apprenticeship with carlsberg to be a drivers mate. They advertised for four vacancies. Two for warehouse, Two for drivers mate. Actually it was ■■■■■■■■, It was two vacancies, One for drivers mate, and One for warehouse. You swapped 6 months down the line so if you was in the warehouse 6 months later you’d be doing the drivers mate work visa versa. Oh and you weren’t guaranteed a job at the end of it! You put an application form in at the end and then they ‘see’ if they have any vacancies at the end of it. Absolute ■■■■■■■■

And the ones that got the apprenticeship, One worked their before on agency but didn’t get a job at the end of it and had family working there. The other had family working there. It’s not sour grapes that I didn’t get it, to be honest I was relieved I didn’t get it. But it goes to show. They make you try for sweet F.A!!! Good luck to um i say.

Just ■■■■■■ me off. Why advertise a job that isn’t actually there. Ah well, just keep applying and hope for the best :grimacing: :grimacing: Something shall turn up eventually!!

It is tosh,i asked an agency not to place me on a night shift, they did, bulk milk tankers and supermarket delivery with milk cages, did it for 3 months,to get in with them.At the time,i could not refuse to do it.
