Soon To Die Digicard Went Down Fighting!

My digicard expired on the 10th July at midnight, as usual I left it in the unit sure enough it spat it out at 0100am BST must of been angry as it woke me up!
Any way pulled card out and unit displayed error code 47 security breach, then code 48 card invalid.
well went back to bed, then in the morning stuck me brand new card in, no problems there.
back to yard friday, downloaded the old card and new card.
This morning theres an infringment print out in the truck, showing i had done 16 hrs 39 mins driving on the 10th July.

I have heard of sleep walking but sleep drivings a new one on me :open_mouth:

I take it, no one else had similar problems @ change over!

Not had that problem myself but looking at that printout you probably need to learn to use the mode switch properly… only 8-10min other work in a shift isn’t even enough to do your daily walkaround checks in VOSA’s eyes, never mind any loading or unloading…

I am well aware of how a mode switch works, thank you very much.
Company policy is 5 mins for walk around, which I do every morning!!!
And since you have no idea what I do, you should keep your criticisms of how and when i work to your self!!

Company policy might be 5 mins but think you find VOSA will over rule that policy they like to see atleast 10 mins at both the start and end of the day

They can insist on what they want, but it isn’t law that you have to show any, so stop spouting crap.

If you dont show other work it shows you have not done daily checks so no its not spouting crap. Was stopped by VOSA about 3 months ago always show I have done pre & post trip inspections they was happy to see it as made my charts 100% legal. In short it pays to show you have done the checks on your card as it is law to check vehicle over.

As for posts going off topic this will always happen as long as there is a forum so wind your neck in!!!

Well we have never had any hassle off VOSA for showing 5 mins walk around in the morning, never heard about having to do at the end of shift, so looks like your wasting 15 mins of your life.
And its been like that for at least 20 years.
So who is right me you them or a law that doesnt exist?

You’re right, I don’t know what you do, but I find it hard to believe there is any driving job where in 3 consecutive shifts there is genuinely only a total of 28 minutes of other work. Once you take off your 15 minutes for your three walkaround checks that only leaves 13 minutes of other work in 3 shifts. That is unlikely to even be enough for putting enough diesel in for 3 days work without taking any other paperwork/loading/unloading/trailerswapping/etc into consideration.

As for keeping it to myself, if you wanted to keep it a secret you should perhaps not have posted the evidence on a forum that gets thousands of hits a day

The VOSA Traffic Examiner I spoke to when I got my O-Licence said they like to see 15 minutes, ideally at the start of the shift but if you drive the same vehicle every day and you are the only driver then it can be at any point in the day. That is not set in law, but if you get stopped and you can’t convince them you have done it to their satisfaction then you are on pretty shaky ground, especially if they have found a defect on your vehicle that you should have spotted.

The only time it wouldn’t be done to there satisfaction, is if they find a reportable defect.
So if I do 5 mins walk around then get pulled and they find nothing wrong I must have done it to there satisfaction.
Oh and for your information I did 29 mins other work today, no day is ever the same.

So 5 mins is enough to make sure all levels are correct no over worn tires will nuts tight load is secure and all lights working body work is secure cracks in windscreen etc etc , No time at the end of the day is not a waste becasue you can make sure nothing has broken during the day :bulb: :bulb: :bulb:

I would guess his tacho goes straight to Rest when stopped, had a few of those in the past, you physically had to change it to POA or Other work when required.

I prefer that to be honest, you never forget to put it on break then eh

Sure is set that way, when i do other work, and belive me my other work doesnt take long (except morning walk around 5 mins) I leave the engine running.
Also I dont need to check the load, its not my concern if it has fallen over or insecure, as long as it doesnt affect the handling of the truck.

Oh and all the other stuff, just so you know unit is a year old and trailer is only 4 months old, and only 1 driver, me.

I had one like that and hated it as at least 9 times out of 10 when I was turning the engine off it was to do other work and I kept forgetting to put it back onto the correct mode. I guess I would have got used to it eventually though, I only had that truck for a couple of weeks iirc.

Load security is not your concern■■? It dose not matter how old a unit or trailer is things can still go wrong. Yes I have had new units and trailers and yes still did full checks at both start and end of the day

You are better off having to much break than to much work with the stupid WTD/RTD Whatever its called.

I’m not bothered what I am better off having, my main aim is to make sure the record is an accurate record of my day’s work, as that is my legal obligation as a driver. If I’m working, I want it to be recording other work, not break, as I have no interest in being done for creating a false record.
