Something not quite right here

But they do…Anyone remember this?

I’ll second Kr79’s post ,see and often run on the same work as Brocks they run a good fleet these days, no tipper firm running the A13 can take a chance with maintenance as we are a captive market for VOSA at Gale St & sometimes Purfleet as well!BTW Harry some of the wheel washers we are expected to use would give a “houseproud” driver heart failure

delboytwo:
well least he can’t blame the satnav for it, as the truck got confused this time :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s taking the argument between satnav and maps a bit far

have to agree with this,i’m now up and down the A13 at dagenham on a regular basis ,only a matter of time before i get a pull at gale st …(again!)

Did they not ever re-open the width restriction on coats road to renwick road that was our local cut through to avoid gale st ?
Surely it can’t still be restricted with the wood sleepers that our grabs lorries would move early morning so we could get through.

Last time I was around that way there was nothing there anymore, disappeared when the restrictions on the railway bridge by the Ship & Shovel went.

Just looked on google earth looks like it’s just buses/taxi allowed through there and sign saying it has cameras. :unamused:

maybe it just needs a wee

They don’t use the lights to stop you on the 13 anymore its all done by the cars or police outriders so no way to avoid vosa now.
To be fair no skip or tipper firm are running old breakers now even they tatty looking ones are fairly well maintained you just can’t get away with it anymore.

Guru…We have a guru now? :open_mouth:

He’ll be along to put that off the road shortly and get vosa out to the yard for a full inspection.

I know which one Vosa would pull if that Vovo was running along side a wheezing old Onion Box and it wouldnt be the Swede
Still as some bright spark says that wouldnt be a problem as everyone knows plod are on the take :unamused:

Harry Monk:
If that happened to my truck then I would want to know why, and the first place I’d be asking questions would be the place where my maintenance is carried out. It’s not just a breakdown, it’s a major failure of a safety-critical component and had it happened at anything other than low speed it could easily have been fatal. This more often happens in countries where vehicles are not subject to such strict mechanical inspections and is usually cause by failure of a track rod end, this simply should not happen.

Muckaway:
Problems with second axles on 8wheelers’ steering, have in my experience, been at low or no speed where the vehicle is shunting around in mud. The resistance puts a lot of strain on components, plus the general abuse that tippers receive, and not just from drivers but clowns onsite who drop stuff on from height and site agents who think tippers can go where a tracked vehicle can.

Both of these statements are spot on.

At least the 8 wheelers steering went on the forecourt of the pumps, not lane 2 of the motorway at 56mph.

You find defects on dirty and clean trucks, the common factor is the defect is present, the skill is understanding why it is present ?, lack of maintenance, lack of driver daily check or failure of a component.

A quote from a driver of over 50 years experience to me the other month

You have a job to do lad, and you do it well, thank god its not like the old days ( I drove an 8 wheeler once with only 4 brakes actually working) its a bloody wonder I am here today

That driver used to be indecisive, but now he’s not so sure.

I bet the driver phoned in to ask what to do.

Driver: the steering has just broken, what should I do?
Boss: where are you?
Driver: at the petrol station
Boss: get to the jetwash and make it look clean, then people won’t make a silly generalisation that a working truck is an unroadworthy menace!!!

The old back way round Choates Road is open, you can get through in an artic no problem. There is a camera but there is a sign saying it’s not working. Been through dozens of times in last 6 months. BTW if you are up & down the A13 beware of the the VOSA Galaxy & Met Commercial Unit (Nissan Navarra) hiding at the top of River Road, Choates Road tea stall, top of the slip roads at Dagenham East & Ferry Lane. If you’ve got a CB go on 22, you might get a reply, but these days don’t hold ya breath! As for Brocks, you wouldn’t run that many old Scanias up & down the A13 eveyday if they werent legal. Some sort of VOSA and/or Met presence nearly every day!

See worse looking trucks than that, looks a well kept truck that needs a wash, things break on any truck let alone one that is fully loaded most it’s life.
