Someone been naughty?

If they’ve filled in sheets for vehicles that were still up the road at the time, they’re bloody daft.

Crown court seems little bit over the top :open_mouth:

Obviously more to it than we have been told by the press.
If i drove for them i would have my feelers out for a new job as ‘disrepute and O licence curtailment’ springs to mind.

Switchlogic and Mr Vernon senior both work for MD, I assume Luke will give his take on it at some point.

Personally I’d be steering well clear of commenting about my employer. Especially when you’re as identifiable as some…

Six weekly inspections are bullocks anyway, I drove for a Dutch outfit and there was no such thing, got a brand new fh Volvo and if it don’t break down it goes back in at a year old for its mot and annual service, and if they don’t care it makes you wonder what goes on in EE land

Exactly,
As Mansel Davies run an ATF there are VOSA men in the yard everyday, the vehicles will probably get looked over more than most. I wouldn’t be concerned about the odd missed inspection.

I reckon Luke has more intelligence to comment on it at all tbh.

My guess would be it went something like this. They’re on green light so rarely get a roadside pull but randomly one has been pulled in and something important like a brake or suspension component has been found broken but with rust on the fracture implying it’s been like it for a while.

Then they’ve gone and looked at the inspection records to find who inspected it and missed such an obvious defect then I suspect it will have transpired a record was filled in and no inspection done.

If there is a missed or late inspection, that’s one thing.
If there is an attempt to hide it, that’s a different thing.
.
Bit like a tacho infringement that is on your card, or “pulling a fuse” to hide one…different offences, pointing to different attitudes to the job.

That is EXACTLY what happened… and not just once.

Wheel Nut:
Have you ever seen a Mansel Davies lorry, they are well fettled and looked after.

Clearly not if they’ve been forging maintenance logs.

biggriffin:
So the fitter just ticked a few inspections thro, without seeing said truck, he would know it’s condition, so what, I would think lots of fitters do the same.

How would he know its condition? He hasn’t seen it so how can he know? A lot can happen in 6 to 12 weeks doing a couple of thousand km a week. Brakes for example can go from OK to well worn in that time, especially if the type of work and where the truck runs changes. The driver not defecting it or spotting stuff on daily walk rounds doesn’t mean anything. 6 weeks where I am the unit could have easily covered 25-30,000km between inspections.

biggriffin:
A good fitter will know which drivers look after the motor and which abuse it, your large blue ■■■ Lego firm, who hot seat maybe not, but a one driver truck firm will.

Still doesn’t mean stuff can’t and won’t break just cos the driver is careful with the unit and judging by the fact they’ve been tugged and faults found sufficient to warrant an onsite inspection then it kind of suggests that your claim that they were good fitters so knew the motors were OK when falsifying maintenance records is a complete crock of crap isn’t it? Quite clearly just knowing the driver is good with their truck isn’t enough is it? Christ some people talk some ■■■■■■■■ on here. Bet you think of yourself as a professional too. :unamused:

Exactly what I’ve heard. In fact it may have been on its side in a field or ditch around the very time it was allegedly being inspected…allegedly Officer/your honour (delete as applicable)

So you would all be happy driving around in a truck thats missed its inspection? not knowing how many items the last mech put down as check next service/serviceable at present and could now be worn out.

Remember the guy with the tipper and his mech?

Have you ever seen a Mansel Davies lorry, they are well fettled and looked after.

Ive seen lots of lorries that look good on the outside, sadly thats not where it counts come inspection/mot time.

Only the most stupid of mechs will fiddle the inspection dates, their reputation will stay with them for life, do it right or not at all.

mountain out of a molehill big stick to deter others is the usual format.
counterfeiting and forgery sound bad until you see its for ticking a few maintenance boxes on a no doubt well maintained fleet anyway.
usual ott dvsa pish.

After that tipper in bath a few years back I’d imagine false maintenance records are seen as pretty serious

Try working amongst it…

Hence I don’t anymore.

But be mindful, its like any topic, there are way too many elements that lead to the above, and no one is ever going to consolidate them to stop the above articles appearing, but eventually though they will stop appearing as mankind won’t be on the planet much longer, or in shorter term analysis, working at all as the machines will take us all down.

Be interested to know what’s been found though, as there’s no point looking for who bummed the vicar with a cactus in the ball room if he’s been found locked in the basement, alone, with the key in his side of the lock at the cactus farm doing a live stream on ■■■■ hub for £8.50ph.

How many drivers Cars would pass a 6 weekly inspection without fault.

idk but I recon about 10% would fail a spot check for lights alone.
