Got any of Barrios in your collection, Mat?
KW:
And that Frans Maas pic,is that an old J.D.Fairweather F88/89 in the background?
.
Yes that is a Faiweather 88, and i’d say that was taken in their yard at Great Yarmouth, between 90-92ish. The Frans Maas Globetrootter belonged to “Hutch” aka Russel Sfictos, he was half Scottish half Greek.
I used to run with him a lot, he was a great bloke, allways good for a laugh, and allways ready to lend a hand or generaly muck in, for instance allways ready to help strip or rebuild a Tilt, many hands made light work. Mind you there was a night that we nearly got a factory foreman a divorce, Hutch persauded him to have a “wee drink mate” after he had given me, hutch and another guy, a lift to the nearest pub on his way home from work (from where we were loading 3 trailers with machine parts the following morning). That was about 7pm, he left at about 10ish, once we’d tapped him up for a kebab or 3 a small taster of many stories
Hutch died about 5 years ago, age 39. a great loss to all.
About his Globetrotter, it was originaly a standard cab, 6 wheel pusher axle and was i beleave a 330bhp model. It belonged to a chap called Valley Man (never knew his real name) running on Norfolk Line from GY. The Globetrotter was put on by Myhills of Fuolsham, who Hutch bought it from. He ran with it on Frans Maas, though after a while he packed in the owner driver business and worked for Yare Haulage, FM’s own transport company and went on continental work. I dont know what happened to the lorry after that.
Several of the other motors look familiar, but dont know details.
I had several F10’s and an F12, allways had a soft spot for them. The 1st unit i got to drive regular after passing my test, was an F10, BVG 585 T if my memory serves right. And my brother, Muckles used to double man with me sometimes, just to keep his hand in, in the F12 I drove, that of the A plate vintage.
Nice pics, many memories, thanx
that is in frans maas’s yard eddie, im sure somewhere i have a photo of valley mans white volvo which i presume he had after this one that hutch had. i will see if i can dig it out (and maybe one of the fairweather f88)
sad to hear someone like that died so young, what a waste of a good life by the sound of it
It wasn’t Frans Maas’ yard, but next door, was a general yard used by alot of hauliers including Fairweather as you spotted Keith, I have the picture of that truck but at the moment lack a scanner so can’t put it on here. Hutch was a great bloke that is true. I took these pictures when I first met him, i will find the year for you at some point. I was in the yard photographing the trucks and approached him and asked if it was ok to take one of his. We got talking, and he told me if I wanted to see some trucks, go to the seafront at 6pm, the East Coast Truckers Convoy would be passing through, duly did, got some great pictures, was that impressed I joined the club, and have driven in the convoy each year myself. I then ended up working for Frans Maas in Tilbury, and met up with Hutch again, and reintroduced myself. After that i used to bump into him all over Europe, and he was always smiling, always ready to cheer you up no matter what a bad day he or you had had. At the same time he was friendly with a Guy called Stuart who also worked for Yares,I would love to know what happened to him. I eventually progressed to the office, but Hutch still popped in every now and then with Stuart for a cuppa. I have seen that Volvo since he sold it, but can’t remember what firm was running it. A sad loss.
As for Shaumatt, they went pop and disappeared overnight.
PS I am Matts brother and took a load of the pics displayed. I have hundreds, but cant share just yet as no scanner.
Do you have any of Barrios F16s out of Newington? Split was my father in law. When he died, the firm went to his brothers who shut it down 6 weeks later.

You’re right in what you say, that was next to Frans Maas at Yarmouth, the yard actually belonged to Fairweather, upto the late 80’s they ran a considerable fleet from there. Then they had to all of a sudden downsize
and after that, Fairweather let space out in the yard.

Yes once met allways remembered

I’m assuming thats Stuart Cole, used to tramp all over Europe for weeks on an end . He was still at Yares til about 2001or2, i think, but i’m fairly certain he’d left by the time I went to Yare, (after years as a subby to Frans Maas.)
I then ended up working for Frans Maas in Tilbury
,
We all have our crosses to bear
I’ll have a word with Muckles to find out why the pictures of my trucks arent hosted anymore, I used to go into Tilbury quite a bit, with a sucsession of white Renaults, and other units before our paths may well have crossed
Mine certainly did with Frank Handyman
I used to drive an ex Fairbrothers F16, E120SVG i think the reg was, apparently the companydriver of it decided to start on his own and bought the truck as a4x2 and stuck a tag axle on the back, thats how it was when i had it, it would be nice to see any pics of it in its heyday.

I haven’t found one yet, just the F88, but am still looking. Have you looked on Toprun’s site, at the Turkish/Cyprus file, amongst all the ex-Pat trucks is a Fairweather’s F16 Globetrotter. Could it be the one??
Here`s a couple of my old ones

Got some of Eddie Snax (Andy’s) pictures back online, If you worked at FM Tilbury at anytime from the late 80’s to about 2003 then you probally would have bumped into him.
You’d defiently know when he arrived because of the need to for ear defenders. If he was with similar looking person, but much quieter, then that would be me.

Got to agree to what has been said about Hutch, great bloke always had a good story or willing to help you out. Sad loss.
aha! yep, know the trucks, recognise them. Never managed to get a photo of them, tried to photograph a few that visited often, good to see the pics on here. Thanks.
Is Transman still on there muckles?
He is indeed. were do you know him from? East Coast Truckers?
Aha, i knew them pics must’ve been hiding somewhere in the electronic ether
