Where do i apply?
I can get more money packing cheese.
It’s not enough to tempt me away from my current retail position at Monsoon Iam afraid.
I will hold out until something better comes up.
So after how many hours does the overtime kick in? Gonna have to whack some hours in to get that kind of salary

Overtime payable after the first 15 hours in a single shift or beyond 60 hours in a week (not including breaks)
The low basic means lower sick and holiday pay. Might as well take the sporadic hours on agency - and get the same pay for half the hours worked.
Must be hourly rate plus job bonus ok when busy but slack weeks and holiday will be poor
■■■■ me I could get more chucking bin bags or sitting in the passengers set as a mate
More than I get working security at night…
That’s about what most of the top drivers here earn, don’t let them tell you any other crap.
It’s basically minimum wage. They really are going to get the dregs from the bottom of the barrel with those wages.

No, they’ll be getting newbies with bright new shiny licences (where the ink is still wet) and hoping they don’t bang the truck. They’ll then leave after six months for a better job that requires experience.
I bet there won’t he a driver there who’s beem there longer than half a year.

That seems to be the standard Business Model these days, buy or lease brand new £70,000+ vehicles (MAN’s), man them with new, inexperienced drivers or old hand Monkeys, pay minimum wage & pay out the same again in insurance, fines, extra maintenance (due to inexperienced drivers & Monkeys who don’t care) extra fuel, tyres, brake pads/discs, damage to pallets & loads, late deliveries, etc etc etc.
Instead of paying a decent wage for drivers who care & plod on without complaining all the time, completing the tasks given to them in a reasonable time.
Oh well, at least the Bosses must be happy [emoji57]
Note-I’m not knocking Newbies, hopefully most of them will learn the job properly, but the Monkeys amongst us should be looking for alternative employment, they’re too dangerous to be let loose in 44 ton lorrys. We’ve got a few at our place & it’s only a matter of time before one of them is involved in a fatal, then the companies will be wondering why, especially at £6.70 an hour [emoji6]
There is a builders merchant near me, always advertising. I went in for a chat. They do the same sort of thing. They pay minimum wage. BUT pay you 12 hours a day minimum and time and a half after 8 hours. Apparently it’s all guaranteed and its in your contract. I still politely made my excuses and left

Yep, in a nutshell thats it, but when you have more managers at a company than you can shake a stick at that between them wouldn’t know a lorry driver from a bar of soap what do you expect.
It’s not just the job thats been dumbed down, thats happened behind the desk too.

They’ll want 12 hours work out of you crammed into 8 hours because most sites wont take deliveries before 8am and after 5pm. That’s why merchants pay crap money, because their working day is so short.

One day yards will realize that if you make a job sound poorly paid - drivers will take it at face value, and walk on by. The “shortage” of full time jobs is coming to an end.
In another 10-15 years or so, being a qualified, ,multi-yard experienced, clean licenced driver - will be like a Pilot with 2000+ flying hours right now.
You CANNOT just spend some money and learn this job without mishap. That makes those of us already on the pedestal - more valuable not less.
Still. I’m looking for a full time job myself now. Fussy as I am, I’m after a 35-48 hour week rather than the seemingly industry standard of 48-60 hours. 60-84 hours need not make itself known to me!
Wages wise? - £30k+ sounds enough to bother with. Such jobs are already available on London C2 Multidrop - but I want to stay on the artics, my age and all that.
There’s plenty of jobs around my way on stuff like P&H, Bidvest, Warburtons, Travis & Perkins - the latter being artic work, but that’s still work for the younger guy - I’m thinking.
P and H, Bidvest, Brakes…a better punishment than community service.
Winseer,
Warburtons is a cut above the rest, i’d be inclined to investigate that one.

On the artic trunks, yes. On the rigids, avoid like an African with Ebola.
