So not only Eddie Stobart drives trains into UK

Harry Monk:
We blame the politicians who allowed it to happen, and it should not have been allowed to happen. A Polish truck driver working for our National Minimum Wage has had a huge pay rise. A British truck driver working for the National Minimum Wage has had a huge pay cut.

Yeah, but I never heard about any Polish trucker working for National Minimum…

robinhood_1984:
My gripe is with Polish trucks, driven by Polish drivers, on Polish wages being operated soley between other European countries and undercutting British, German, Dutch French transoport companies on domestic western european work.

They can’t do domestic transport, they can do only international (except from Britain, where the goverment relaxed cabotage rules and now they can go few shifts every time they are here. Am I allowed to tell that your goverment has to be a bunch of morons to do that, or it will be taken as I am splashing about how good is Polish goverment who has not done that? :grimacing:  )

sorry, I mixed the quotes, you know yourself who said who, I hope you forgive me:
Poles living in Britain wether sending money home or not are still having to live within the constraints of a very expensive society and earn wages according, even if it it sometimes less than the equivillent Brit is on, but a Polish truck thats operated from Poland and paying the driver Polish wages, but putting it up against British, German or whoever in western Europe is the real parasite when it comes to the transport industry in Europe.

Well, but this is a norm in all kinds of transport. We have ships registered under flag of convenience in some exotic countries killing shippers who still want to use their country flag and comply with their country rules… We have german train moving stuff from Poland to England… We have British Easy Jet and Irish Ryanair dominating cheap flights market in Europe… This is life. Easy Jet and Ryanair was cutting their prices so low, that polish Centralwings went bankrupt and you don’t see me crying about that.

This is not only specific to the transport industry - how many of you drive British made cars?

This is the common market - we are cheaper or better in one industry, you are cheaper in better in another, and Germans or French are better in yet another.

Out of interest Orys, can you tell us more of these two British drivers working for Polish companies?

Not much, I am afraid. I just meet one of them on the Puttgarten-Fernham ferry and talked for a while, he said he has a Polish wife and moved to Poland for her, he said that he is surprised as he expected it to be disaster and actually despite that by direct calculation he earns a bit less than he used to in UK, he can live better for his Polish salary in Poland than he was able to live on his British salary in UK. He said that the trucks are better looked after and that the boss threats him better, the only downside for him was that he has to go double manned until he learns Polish, as this is what they expect from him, and despite it was nearly a year as he started, he still could not really speak Polish (which is an achievement in my opinion, if you spent weeks with a Polish guy in a truck cab). He says that he really enjoys driving, as they do mostly North and East, and he says going to Ukraine or Romania at first was scary for him, but now he enjoys it and he was telling me lot of stories from there, as I never been there. So that’s for the first one.

The other one I approached on a small parking in Austria, when some plastic ■■■■ went off and was touching my tire. I saw a Polish lorry, so I went and asked if the guy have a cable tie or a bit of wire to spare and to my surprise he wasn’t speaking any Polish (actually this was even bigger surprise, as it was before I met that other one). We chatted a bit, he told me that he is on 4 weeks on / 2 weeks home, he swappes lorries in Holland and flies home to Birmingham with some cheap flights, and that he is about the same financially as he was when tramping in UK, but he is happy that he don’t have to drive in that ■■■■■■■■ anymore (this is a quote). And he says that it’s worth for him that he is away for the whole month, as after that he can spend two weeks with his family. He asked also about me, but has less interest, as I guess Poles driving for UK companies are much more common sight  Then he said that he has no tools or cable ties with him, so I guess he is not polonized yet  Lucky for me the Czech van pulled over, and he helped me with a plastic seal so I could fix my van and get back on the road.

I once heared a rumor that Polish companies were at one time advertising for drivers in poorer parts of Ireland and Scotland, I’ve never seen proof of that myself though.

I heard some rumours about this adverts in UK as well, but can’t tell you anything more.

true story

If I was him, I would sue the agency on discrimination grounds.

Wheel Nut:

agency culture of British industry has been a massive accelerator of the problem.

And that is the most sensible post I have read on here, it is the agencies that have sprang up over the last 20 years that are the parasites, mostly staffed by sales people whose only aim is to flood the market with cheap labour, whether that be home bred or migrant.

Well, I have similar views on agency culture, but I am not sure if I can say that, as it will be that I criticize Britain again.

Agencies have place as an emergency replacement of workers, but should not be a main source of workforce.

Agencies aren’t as strong in Poland yet, but we have the similar problem - the companies can by law to give the employer a fixed term contracts, but after 2 or 3 times, the next one has to be permanent. So they just keep them as long as they can without giving them permanent contract, then when it is finish never offer them a next one.

mickyblue:
Ory’s, Ignore what they say about Poland and let’s talk about the Polish women. Why are they fit and ■■■■ looking?

Because they are Polish and as Switchlogic rightly pointed out, everything Polish is better :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

Wheel Nut:
I just watched a programme about cabbage, although I cannot see why it doesn’t work with German women

Haha, they might eat too much cabbage.

But if we want to adress that question, I had read an interesting article sometimes ago. It says that it is mostly thanks to that in Poland (and in gerneal in southern country) it is different diet. People eat more fresh food, less processed ones. And thanks to that they are slim and have healthier skin. And that it now changes in Poland, as we now start to have more and more of that processed food, and people cook home less and less and use ready meals and this generation is already fatter and have more health problems.

But maybe you can explain it to me: is it just a coincidence, or I made a right observation: in Poland there is usually the same amount of fat woman and fat man. In UK it seems to me that it is much more fat woman than man… Am I right?

my friend was delivering to a coldstore when a gist from spalding came in, and ben got talking to the driver who was a pole, now this driver lives in wales but works out of spalding sharing a flat down there 3 weeks at a time then goes home for a week.

my mates asks him about his money and mr pole says he is on £7.50 all hours and £9.50 weekends :open_mouth:

so ben tells him he is being ripped off but poles says they are all on that

ben gets number for the agency and bells them up in front of the pole gets chatting to agency bird ask whats work they have on … she lists a load of companies including gist, my mate ben says oh right ive done a lot of work for gist out of hemel would he be able to get in there   agency girl says yes no problem at all…

ben asks what the rate is…

she says £9.50 mon to fri and time and half after 8 :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

pole hears this goes stomping off to truck in a right flaming mood :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:
later my mate is pulling out and pole is grinning ear to ear with his thumbs up.

true story

Yep, its all true as i was, am, Ben. The Pole told me he was doing 65-70 hours a week over 6 days, and banking about £430 a week for it. He lives in North Wales and travels to Spalding every 3 weeks as its ther best money he can earn, i laughed and said im sure he could find a better, closer job that Spalding!

When i phoned his Agency up he couldnt believe it, I said to him it was just proving what everyone else already knew! To be fair he was actually a really nice bloke to chat too, i did feel quite sorry for him…

I don’t avoid any sub forum as I use ‘new posts since last visit’ tab. In fact I don’t even notice what forum stuff is posted in. Point still stands though.

No, I am not. This is Trucknet, and I have right to expect that topics will be kept in order.

Btw: can you advise me on some good red Spanish wine, but not too dry… :grimacing:

my favourite is Sangre de Toro, about 5.99 in tesco (or 3 euro in spain) but any rioja or valdepeñas would be nice. a nice red is from the area “ribera del duero” but might be too dry for you

the last time you tried a joke it was something about ■■■■■■■? I didn’t get it

Nice to see Carryfast has been re-invented.

I’m sadly disappointed by the fact that this thread has only grown to four pages in the week I’ve been absent from internet. So that leaves six more pages to enlightment. Oh god I wish I lived in poland. And so on.
