Just out of interest, which direction were you heading in - I was on the M25/M1 to j15A about that time, I was driving an ND Premium with a Paccar Parts trailer…
And I saw gritters, and a few ploughes but on the M40

You’ve still got to get to your drop on time it dosn’t snow in a jobsworths office.![]()
I actually got a well done for getting back from our office, albeit I was an hour late but Id rather get there in one piece than not at all
Ok, so not as bad as elsewhere, but its still snow
Shame I never got a pic of the unit I used on the Paccar trunk after the run up the M25/M1 - that had ice and snow stuck to the front

Snow is predicted for some areas of the UK on thursday and temperatures down to -10!!!
Do you like snow or find it annoying? I know i like it as i can miss schoolbut what about you peeps out on the road?
Just thought this might form an interesting discussion.
Cheers
-30…do i like it■■? i don’t have a choice, i have good winter tyres,chain’s etc…but how are the winters on hawaii
Snow as such is not a problem, until there’s so much of it that it brings down trees that tear down powerlines etc, the problem is people’s attitude and behaviour.

In Northampton at the moment 11.30, doesn’t look like they’ve gritted since about 9pm last night. It was on the news that 27 gritting lorries left brixworth station, don’t know where they dropped their gritt but it certainly wasn’t in northamptonshire!

Way offtopic, but just couple days ago I was talking with friend of mine, who was at that time waiting for his next load in Aukra (in Norway) and he told me the temperature was about +8C That’s quite a sharp drop if that’s the current weather there as Aukra and Ã…ndalsnes seem to be pretty close each other
Another way offtopic question:
Does the cold flatten batteries? its just i was walking to school this morning (im 17 ) and some bloke goes ‘Excuse me mate, can you push my car to the brow of the hill so i can bump start it.’ So playing the good samariton i helped him and ofcourse i had to do the pushing while he turned the wheel (lazy [zb]). However surely he could have done something the night before to prevent this, am i right?
I would say that it’s rather problem with engine needing more power to be started…
When living in Poland I always had to help my neighbours, borrowing them some power from my car (suprisingly this old commie bangers, made in 1960s standards are sometimes better than all this modern fancy cars) and just after the frost went off they do not had any problems again, on the same batteries.

Car batteries (like all batteries) degrade over time, the constant full charge/discharge shortens the life of the chemicals within the battery which create the chemical reaction to create the ‘charge’.
This ‘charge’ is also degraded by the weather, a summer morning 25c a fully charged battery will devote 100% of it’s viable capacity to start the car.
At 0c (this morning) even if the battery is at 100% of it’s efficiency (brand new) it will still only have 66% of it’s full power available due to poor chemical reaction due to the cold.
i personally hate the stuff, give me fog, wind, and rain anytime,

The thing with the UK & snow is that everybody moans that they can’t carry on as normal because the roads aren’t cleared like they are in other countries, that’s wrong, in countries that get a lot of snow on a regular basis the people accept that things are going to get done a lot slower or not at all, that’s the big difference. In places like the Alps, Scandinavia, Canada & the USA they have some serious snowfalls, the roads close down while it’s snowing if it’s that bad, when the storm has passed the snowplows come out & everybody gets on their way again, albeit at a pace that suits the conditions, the ones you see in the ditch are the ones that try to carry on as normal.
The difference is that ‘not that bad’ and ‘a pace that suits the coditions’ in Canada or the States , means that unless it’s more than a foot deep they probably won’t bother ploughing it or gritting and they’ll slow down from around 65 mph to 50 or 60?.But they don’t have those hopeless 4x2 or 6x2 units getting stuck and jacknifing in less than 6 inches of snow

i was going to head up the M1 but i think there was an accident on the slip road?..nothing was moving so i carried on round to the M40…AND yes…it looked like the M40 had been gritted…pity the same couldnt be said for the services …several inches of snow over ice.
