Snow on trailers

Yesterday morning I followed an artic out off an industrial estate near southampton. I won’t name the company but on my nieces life the snow on his trailer was atleast a foot thick and covered the whole length off the trailer. There’s no snow here so where he came from god knows but what was disconcerting was I followed him round a roundabout and on to the m27 a lump came off the back and bounced! It was solid if that lot came off in one hit it would be carniage now would this bother you or would you refuse to take it out?

no i wouldnt refuse to take it out, if it bothered me that much then i would climb up or get a forklift to lift me up parallel with a broom and sweep it off.

Saw one on the M25 exactly the same yesterday

Personally I’d Shovel/sweep it off if it was a flat or similiar, but if it was anything tall then there’s nothing really you can do but wait for it to blow off, I wouldn’t expect anyone to climb on top of a Double Decker to clear it!

If it was just snow I’d agree wait for it to blow off not much you can do without getting up there but this was a slab off Ice the bit that fell off bloody bounced now if a bit the size off a football fell off the off side that would make one hell off a deny on your bonnet and if the whole slab came off well you’d ■■■■ it surely.

So, what would you suggest, then?

a hosepipe will sort it out.

What I was going to say.

I’m sure 'elf & safety would take offence to you climbing onto trailers to clear snow off without Scaffolding, guide ropes, batman and a paramedic on standby.

Hosepipe would be frozen tho’, wouldn’t it?

I would suggest picking another trailer it never done any damage to me I heard nothing about 3 ton off ice killing a family off 4 on the radio so I’m guessing all was fine or he luckily lost it somewhere where no one was around I just wondered how people would clear it or if they’d even be happy taking it on the road like it it’s not like every lorry you see is like it so some must do something to bother to clear it.

Pick another trailer? You mean like one that hasn’t got the load on? OK, you go ahead my friend…

Wouldn’t bother me, life goes on as usual, I’ll drive mine & the driver will drive his #simples…!!!

Use to see in Norway 20 foot containers in various parking spots with steps to get up on top of the container where the idea is you pull along side container walk up on top of the container so you could remove the snow of the top of the trailers big fines if you got caught not doing it

would the weight of the snow / ice put you over weight ifso what would vosa say or do about it ■■

About 2 month ago a trailer was picked up from du pont dumfries, it had aparently sat there for a week , at a small roundabout just down the road a sheet of ice came off and smashed a young girls windscreen luckily no one was injured, what bothers me is how are u meant tocheck for that kind of thing ? I dare say the elf and safety lot arent going to be to pleased about a forklift lifting anyone up to clear it.

Used to happen with tilts when it rained :open_mouth: then froze :unamused: the driver is responsible :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

All down to H&S fella

All their hot air would probably melt it!!

Using a Vehicle in a Dangerous Condition was the charge when my mate went in front of the local magistrates after a hundredweight of the white stuff fell on an off-duty copper many years ago. As I recall, he was landed with 3 point on his licence (told you it was a long time ago) and a £10.00 fine.

What if the company in question doesn’t have 24,000 trailers to choose from? Or it’s a Rigid?
