Snooper vs tom tom

I know this topic has been hammered to death in the past… But which is the better sat nav to get? Both have good and bad points but I’m drawn to the snooper with the built in free view

Get a TomTom, it’s a better quality product. I bought a Snooper, it does a good enough job but it’s replacement will be a TomTom.

The Freeview is a let down & a gimmick.

You’re doing it wrong if you rely on a free view telly for in cab entertainment particularly if it’s a factor in deciding which sat nav to get.

I’ve got a snooper 7000 with TV for sale if you want one, is handy if you’re in a job where you might be parked up for a bit, just switch TV on and relax,

i use a snooper 8000 well worth the money , wouldn’t use anything else best thing i ever brought.

I had a Snooper 7000 and the TV worked perfectly. I bought a great nav from ebay that cost £100 and sold the Snooper for almost the price I paid for it three years ago - an offer I couldn’t refuse.

The TomTom is good, but just as overpriced as the Snooper.

I’ll have a think how much, but the TV on mine worked excellent. Never ever used the external aerial, obviously they work best nest houses where the signal is strong, in the middle of the moors, not so good, i will sort a price for tomorrow,

any dinosaurs still using maps LOL

Yes I stil use a map and I use them other books what u cal them that’s it A-Z lol

Have a tomtom truck nav myself but wouldn’t follow it blindly, especially into a city as it wanted me to go under a low bridge one day that for some reason wasn’t programmed into it.
The way I use it and the only way to use any sat nav IMO is to let it plan a route and then check it on google maps, looking out for railway bridges, narrow streets, tight turns etc.
That way you can follow it with confidence. I wouldn’t trust any sat nav no matter how good or how many swear by them.

I just found it a bit of a faff to be honest. Most of the time I found I had to plug in the external ariel to get a half decent signal, then have to go through the rigmarole of retuning it all the time. I used it a bit at first but the novelty wore off and now I can’t be arsed.

What he said. Get a laptop or a tablet with mobile internet.

To be fair, we have just exhibited at the NEC, the S8000 and DB8500 picked signal fine, pretty good considering we were under a metal roof!

Is there a truck version of the TomTom Go 600 with European maps? If yes would you have a link?

I have been using a snooper 7000 for about 5 years now, yes it has it’s faults, updating the thing is a right pain and expensive to, are the 8000’s any better? never had any problems with the tv though, the thing is with the snooper it will try to navigate you round a bridge or weight limit by sending you down a cart track without telling you why, also some of the bridge height info is well out of date, by many years in many cases

I also use a cheap micky mouse flea bay truck nav from trucktables.co.uk, the map is quite god but its far slower to use when putting in a new address to get going, never used tom toms much so cant comment

I think the idea with the tv is to use the aerial every time, I mean how many digital TV’s work without an aerial anyway?
the tv signals ■■■■ in our area even with a quality aerial on the house, we don’t all live in towns/city’s with cable tv
