Update Update Update

Called Snooper today Re : the software issue, Mac or PC…

They said that they do not use Mac, only PC. I find this very strange. In todays technical world, how can a company such a Snooper isolate itself from a large section or the market by not having software which runs on both Mac and PC. Imagine buying a printer that wouldn’t work on both, that would just be silly.

Anyway rant over.

Just as luck would have it I have a NC10 NetBook that was redundant when I bought my Mac a year or so ago. Its not that fast but it would only be used for the SatNav updates.

Just been on looking at Snoopers and it appears that they are releasing a newer AVN S9000 Truckmate Pro which has Double DIN CD/DVD/Radio Tuner with Bluetooth handsfree and iPod connectivity has a DVD player etc on. Double the price I think though at about £799. Would you pay that. Maybe if they threw in a large screen TV as well.

Ordered the s7000. To be delivered tomorrow.

In response to all who will not and do not use Sat Navs. In fact some hate them. Its just personal preference and a tool to make the job a little easier. I used to be in the Army and everything navigation when I was in was by map and compass. I remember following someone who was map reading once and we walked miles and miles out of the way as he got lost. I know that the Army and other services now use GPS equipment to assist them. I only wish it had been available when I was in, it would have saved my feet a little bit. Times move on and so does technology. Sometimes the old ways are not the best but if you prefer to use just a map then thats up to you. If some of us want to use Sat Navs then thats also up to us.

We’ll see how it goes. Hope I don’t get lost now. Ha Ha

Wish me luck.

I have the S7000,when you can plan up to 16 multi drops,it does not realise you have left drop A,and will keep sending back to drop A,when i am trying to get to drop B.It is the same for the rest of the route you have planned.
The green arrow is moving around.
One time it tried to send me under a 13 foot bridge even though i had entered the correct height of the trailer.Too high for that bridge.
When the planner rings up to say cancel some drops, you have to start all over again to enter the updated route,i know you can delete the route you are on,but it messes up the plan when some drops are cancelled or you have to do then in another way around for closing or opening times of premises.

at the start of the run I enter all the drops into a poi file and just delete them as I go on. This gives the flexibility you need.

snooper s7000 pro

ive been using the snooper s7000 pro for 1 yr im currently on my 2nd one , as the 1st one i bought directly from snooper at £500 was flawed with screen freezing maps staying white , its very good with bridges but weight limits can be dodgy especially london area due to timed weight limits , the line guidance is not brilliant you can get it wrong , un like tomtom the lane guidance is superb , the other problem with the snooper is its very basic with details of your route , 20% of downtons drivers use the snooper system and theyve all had problems with software and freezing , there customer service is excellent tho , but there website aint the easiest to use , the £60 update is for camera database , the maps are old even on new snoopers and its impossible to get updated maps , take the A46 to newark for instance your snooper is off roading spinning around losing its bearings , 1 thing i will say sometime the snooper says no route possible ? if you on a big dock miles away from a road it wont calculate a route it says no route possible ? £500 for this mmmm

it has 99% of industrial parks and poi updates for key truck specific fuel stations also truck stops and truck parking laybys ,

ive had the tomtom truck and its rubbish compared to the snooper s7000 truckmate pro , the only thing i wish snooper would do is make the lane guidance better , with more details of route , and improve the weight restrictions ,the screen is too bright at night even with the power right down ,

my mate works at norbet destranggle and there trucks have built in truck sat navs , unlike downtons basic dafs basic wages cowboy firm to work for , time to retire ,theyre laying off 400 drivers after xmas

The Snooper is an excellent bit of kit but the price is ■■■■■■■ ridiculous, especially the new one at £799, that is absolutely ■■■■■■■ ludacris. You can buy a full brand new gaming PC for that, a 3D tv, HD, and god knows what else for that price.

The bluetooth is pretty quiet on the Snooper TruckMates, I have reverted to using earpieces with the cord rather than BT so I could hear them!

The base of the aerial must be attached to the bodywork (with its magnet) to work properly. eg. pass the lead through the window and stick the aerial to the outside of the door.

Truckmate s7000 - no problems at all and it’s yet to send me down an unsuitable route. Still carry a truck map though…

What if i fall asleep while watching the tv,and it rains on the aerial that is outside of the cab, will it ruin it,the magnetic base is the one im on about.

To be fair pat I use an atlas to get from town to town it’s just to find the delivery and collection address I use it for.

Fair enough but how do you think we all managed for decades without SATNAV ? We called te company or our traffic office provided directions.
I have a 1 cent per month SATNAV on my phone, it should be $10.00 a month but I got an offer, I do sometimes use it when very close and in a built up city area like the Bronx etc but I see idots on the interstate staring at a straight line on their SATNAV’s  And still they mess up by being sent the wrong way, none of them actually trust the things anyway because they still ask for directions
If I got a penny for every time I heard someone shouting for help because their SATNAV sent them down a restricted road I’d be quite well off.
In the 80’s I had a fold out map of Greater London are that showed every bridge height and weight restriction, one way street and parking restriction. The map was reprinted every year, I loved it.

Very wise.

I think I still have most of my Philips County Maps that I bought whilst trucking before 2007, and recently with my Snooper I still carry them of sorts. Within 100 miles of home as I may get sent there with work and the rest are at home. If I know I am going to an area I’ll carry them in the boot and decided there and there whether to take them, but still always carry the Truckers Atlas of the UK, the snooper and my phone has internet access as well.

It is much easier these days with the variety of navigation devices available but it often still comes down to common sense on where you take your truck
