I don’t want to see anyone come to grief so I will just say that SMS make you sign a contract agreeing to pay for any damage caused and a driver was recently stopped £1500 when he over-ran the pin and hit the rear of his cab with a fridge motor. If that’s the type of firm you want to work for…
yes and i would have made him pay for the damage
if i had damaged his vehicle would he make me pay for it … Yes i think so

Personally I would say it was more normal for a company not to deduct the cost of accidental damage from a driver’s pay than to deduct it- I do not know of any other company locally which does it.
Although I have a very good insurance claims record at work, I wouldn’t personally work for a company which would dock me a month’s wages if I made a mistake, and I imagine I am not the only driver here who would say that.

You’re not, I wouldn’t either, they can dream on. I thought we went to work to earn, not to pay for the company expanses out of our pittance, whatever next ? In what other games does this happen ?.
Exactly. Last week I pulled up in Travis Perkins, Newport, Shropshire, as per my delivery note and my load schedule. The yardman said “There’s something wrong here mate” and scuttled off to the office.
When he came back, he said “These are for Newport, Gwent”.
Nobody in our office will be deducted the cost of the wasted diesel, and quite rightly so. I’m amazed that anyone would agree to it.
for leehawke THE COMPANY S HAVE SOME THING CALLED insurance
TO cover such accidents don,t know about you , but i was doing
well over 20,000km +a month when i worked so the odds were
more in the favour that a accident may occur, so unless some
one deliberately and wontedly caused the accident ,
they can take a long jump off a short pier,
I will not be a party to their extortion or a working driver,
I am with HARRY MONK on this,.,

20.000km thats 568 mile a day did you manage to drive to you maximum driving every day for a month ■■?
well all i can say is this I have not given u a load of ■■■ as u say; and
will not;;EITHER;; if you can read try this vlissingen wurzburg lindau widnau
thats about 918kmstwo trips a week min , load sunday , drop monday
load tuesday night, drop thursday off to LYON ; Friday off, load
ON Saturday to deliver Swiss Monday, and we had permits for
the driving bans in GERMANY; ;one load , one drop all the time,
and to be honest i only posted this because I
and those who drove with me in the firm
did do such mileage, one more point it
is not possible to do such mileages now because
the speed limiter is set lower and the controls are stricter
and you are of course entitled to your view but ask any ROBA
drivers that came into WIDNAU ,how often he saw us in the factory
my pennies worth, i think what lee is saying and i agree with him, drivers “” NOT ALL drivers “”, don’t give a flying [zb] about equipment given to them be it a clipboard to a truck,
i have seen it all to often you get a driver who thinks he is Stirling moss in a company truck driving them like a complete ■■■ yes or no!!
one thing what is a true statement THERE ISNT SUCH THING AS A ACCIDENT"" ACCIDENTS ARE CAUSED!! THROUGH 99.9% of the times by neglect.
so yes i agree with lee make them pay for the damage if as lee says he took your car and damaged it you would want it paying for wouldn’t you?? a fair few drivers have the wrong attitude in thinking its OK its the company insurance what pays for it, so what who gives a [zb],
if as daft mad says i wouldn’t take a job if i had to pay for damage well you must be one “crap driver” if you daren t take responsibilities for your own actions, there is a diffrence bewtween neglect etc, like backing into the back of your cab i think
I.E over shooting the pin and smashing the back of the cab, what sort of dummy does this that isnt a accident is it!! NO its neglect really if in doubt get out and check but again most are to lazy to do this and then go ooops i have hit this and broke that,
think what lee is trying to say is the above why should say lee have to pay for drivers been idiots and wilfully doing damage to others property, as if it was your own personal things you would be seeking compensation for the damage wouldn’t you, so what is the diffrence,
Blimey here we go. Ok I’ll try and explain. Myself personally take great pride in my work and truck and do not have incidents, very rare occurrence and I certainly don’t miss pins either. That sort of person should get perhaps another chance and if happens again sacked. As I said I don’t go to work to have any fears of any pittance I might gain having any chance of being deducted. Accident free bonus I would agree with though. The job is stressful enough without any of that added on. If you’re on percentage earnings too, one puncture or breakdown and we’re paying you to drive your truck.
no daftmad, not on about percentage etc or tyre, as i am saying there is no such thing as a accident , ACCIDENTS ARE CAUSED,
you get drivers who don’t give a flying [zb] about the trucks is this true you will have seen it in your life in the way they treat the truck knocking hell out of it etc through sheer neglect, 90% of driver try there hardest not to do damage, but what do they teach drivers esp when learning to driver lgv"s … reverse up to trailer get out and check height of trailer and unit yes or no?? and again 95% of drivers dont do this through sheer lazyness “i for one” so if you shoot the pin it is down to you its not a accident really is it, its down to sheer laziness and rushing to get to the caf or get home etc, so why should you give the drive a second go for him to miss it again 2 weeks later and cause another £1500 min damage, if the contract is put in front of you where malicious damage is caused through your own fault you pay for it then basically why shouldnt you, you have damaged it " not you ,figure of speech" if you new you had to pay for damage caused then maybe just maybe you would treat other peoples equipment respectfully instead of trying your hardest to [zb] it up like some driver out there do, there is a diffrence from been given the wrong del details as harry says thats down to office admin etc and no why should you be expected to pay you shouldnt but shooting pins, ripping of landing legs air lines because you forgot!! you wouldnt forget to quick if it wa coming out of your own pocket why as i say should others have to pay for your mistakes “with in reasons”
Yes, gobby, there are people about like you say I’ve seen them and always thought, how the hell do they get these jobs. Assessments, interviews, references and they still get through it seems. But you are admitting they are in the minority, I hope they are. Same old thing, it seems, a few bad ones (I hope) in the minority and we’re all tarred with the same brush. I can see wilful neglect or something similar possibly being acceptable or something along those lines.
Harry Monk:
Another rather strange thing about SMS is that they require drivers to have 5 ‘O’ levels or GCSE equivalent.
well done harry, back on topic.
i dont think its gone of topic alix, it started saying driver to pay for damages yes or no? and one ma reply"d so he should pay for damage , to which im agree,so how is it back on topic with harrys post when it aint even gone of topic? think you need to get yourself some new reading glasses alix so you can read it and let it sink in

One thing’s for sure, you wouldn’t pass the 'five ‘O’ levels" bit.
Anyway, can we have the name of your company, so we know who not to work for?
