Somebody started a thread about this company, asking what they are like to work for, but the thread was moved, and cannot be replied to.
I don’t want to see anyone come to grief so I will just say that SMS make you sign a contract agreeing to pay for any damage caused and a driver was recently stopped £1500 when he over-ran the pin and hit the rear of his cab with a fridge motor. If that’s the type of firm you want to work for…
I’m not sure but as a result of this thread I’ve asked some people ITRW- SMS are local to us- and what I am hearing makes me think I wouldn’t personally want to work for them to the point where I would sooner flip burgers in McDonalds.

New drivers dont get paid for weekends either. They swallowed Kevin Atwell and more recently Geoff Hart

Good Morning,
Thanks for the comments above… Very interesting indeed.
To answer one point… I am the Operations Director and own 50% of the
company.
I have a goood team of long serving staff in the office and some very good drivers
who have been with me from the start. Work with us… and we will work with you.
Final small point… We like all companies suffer from Bad Debts as no matter how
careful you are… how many checks you make you can in this climate still get caught.
Again… Even if we get caught with a non payment we still always pay the sub-contractor.
We then suffer like other companies from the sub-contractor who thinks he can back door us
and go straight to the customer to obtain more revenue… !!
Anyway … better get on the Grand Prix is about to start… Come on the Brits !!
Regards, Neville.
Gentlemen,
If i have had apound for every time I heard someones badly informed views on our company
I would be mildly wealthy. I just soak it all up and from time to time react.
What started of as an SMS enquiry ends up with a comment on Heritage !!
I have a mate who tells me that Volvos are a load of crap but I run an all
Volvo fleet and have very few problems… In other words is just an opinion.
If you make careful considered checks on any company via Experian, Checksure
you can gleen a very good strating point to build a picture on the company.
Then… ask the current owner drivers / companies that have worked for us
and again… make a judegment.
I could mention a whole number of things on here about almost any existing transport
company… bit… its only things I hear and my opinion… so I choose not to.
Nobody works for me or my company because they have to… An awful lot of people
do though because they do want to and they know they will be paid… Vital in this
job.
Neville,
If anyone wants to have a pop at Heritage, send them my way.
I can give many acounts of how you and Kevin afforded me and the other drivers respect, and valued our professional judgement. Even though i only worked for you for 4 months.

spoke to a guy on for heritage and he didn’t seem to think they were that good either
his advice was to stay well clear
I never took this post as a poke at Neville or Heritage anyway.
I think the Taff spoke to another owner driver from Heritage and it was he, who probably suggested SMS were not the best company in the area to work for.
We regularly backload for Heritage- one a week maybe- have done for years, and we’ve never had a problem with them. The loads are always well arranged, the ferry is always booked, and they pay on time, every time.
As Mal suggested, I think there’s just some crossed wires here.

See how easy it is to make a mistake on the internet?
As it happens Harry, that was the meaning I took from the original post but I can see how there could easily be a misunderstanding, that said, in the late 80’s I was subbying for a company doing Spain who were simply the best company I had worked for. Some of there owner drivers, if questioned by other o/d’s would lie about how good they were in order to stop an endless queue of drivers trying to add their name to the subby’s list and water down the quality of the service we got.
As it happens they ran a set number of subcontractors and wouldn’t take any on until on left (“dead mans shoes”) which is how all the best companies work. (Just like LKW Walter eh■■?)
So Neville, even though this one seems to be a misunderstanding, there can be many reasons for apparant “bad reports” about your company, some actually very positive.
I like Ross’s logic! So the reason there are so many vitriolic posts about Stobart is because the drivers who already work there want to keep it to themselves, the drivers who don’t work there are just jealous and slag them off regardless

correct wheel nut it was
it wasn’t a poke at Heritage in any way, shape or form i spoke to one of the drivers who works there and we got chatting about SMS and he said
what he knew and so forth, then gave me the advice as to stay well clear of them (SMS)
i do apologize if you thought it was a pop at you neville
