Who’s responsible for enforcing the smokefree law?

Smokefree law will be enforced by local councils and port health authorities, within the areas for which they have responsibilities. The Smokefree (Premises and Enforcement) Regulations specify the bodies that will be enforcement authorities for the smokefree law.

The approach local councils will take to enforcement is based on supporting businesses and the public to comply with the smokefree law by providing advice, support and information at first. Formal enforcement action should only be needed when the seriousness of the cases warrants such action.

Will the police be involved in enforcement?

Enforcement is the responsibility of local authorities, but as with other enforcement issues, police may need to be involved in cases of public disorder, threatening behaviour or breaches of the peace.

So the answer is, local Councils are responsible for enforcing the no smoking in vehicles, it is not a police matter

If we are splitting hairs the company vehicle that we share!!!

Nobody, do you really want to pay taxes so that your local Council can employ a “No Smoking Officer” on £40,000 a year?

Speaking as a non smoker it ■■■■■■ me off big style if anybody smokes in my motor (figuratively speaking, but I DO live in it) when I am off, I have found most smokers to be pig-ignorant in this type of scenario, and treat you as if YOU are being unreasonable if you tackle them about it, and you always get the…“Well I had the window open” as if that makes any difference ffs :imp:
Have a polite word with the other driver, but if this does not work I have found that if you make a deal with them, along the lines of…" If you smoke in my motor again, then I will promise to rip your ■■■■■■ head off" usually displays the way that you think about it and is usually successful :bulb: , especially when they see that you DO actually mean it.
Stand by for the insults and abuse from the smokers on here for having the audacity to expect some element of consideration from a smoker :unamused:
And for Christ’s sake don’t wind truckyboy up about it,…especially if your frilly curtains smell of smoke

I have started photographing them …

:open_mouth: I was with you mate until you said that.
I’m assuming photographing them with the intent of grassing them up? :open_mouth: :unamused: … Nah, I’ll stick with the offer of ripped off head method :sunglasses: , it’s more direct, effective, and not sneaky.

Note; …Getting the impression now that you are on a wind up

Photographing the night driver who drives “your” lorry? Haven’t you better things to be doing? Like going home?

I smoke…but I keep my cab concours,inside and out.
painted steel wheels, washed by hand(including nooks and crannys)…interior,as standard…just out the showroom.if anyone ■■■■■ with my motor, and that includes crumbs, footprints etc ,I will kick off.
Ive fitted an air line and paid for cleaning tackle.if they want me to kip in the truck they will keep scum bags out of it...the end. I dont do bling.
perfect, unsullied, standard,as new condition is what I require…and if I don`t get it,you can stick it up your arse.

as such…nobody but me has graced my truck:twisted:

no you haven’t…

my motor is the cleanest on the fleet bar none…flagship

I used to smoke. When we had works nights out, and we went for a ■■■, all the other lads were shocked, as from the state of my cab, they wouldn’t have had a clue.

I wouldn’t smoke in my house I won’t smoke in my own car and although my trucks mine and no one else drives it I never payed for it so I would respectfully not smoke in it. My cabs immaculate it looks like new and smells the same just how I like it.

As a light smoker of both “persuasions”, I never smoke in my own or anyone else`s house, car or wagon. I am also totally in agreement with the laws regarding this (apart from the wacky), and have no problem observing them.

I wouldnt dream of inflicting the consequences of my bad habits upon anyone else, and consider it the height of bad manners in anyone who flouts a non-smokers perfect right to a smoke-free environment. Its not difficult to avoid conflict if you exercise a bit of consideration for others.

As some one who smoked 20-40 a day for nearly 30years i used to smoke whilst driving a truck after the smoking ban came in (agency work.window open ect ) since i quit smoking some 3-4yrs ago i can’t stand the smell of stale cigarette smoke any more ,When you are a smoker you can’t smell the stale smoke residue that imprenates clothing ,seat covers, curtains ect plus that yellow(zb) that sticks to the roof lining and glass (nicotine) recently i went around to a mates flat,to fix his PC after i got home, i could smell the stale smoke on my jacket days later, I can tell if a person smokes without seeing them smoking , it’s on their breath , clothes from several paces,( if they have just put one out)lol
So windows open or not, if you aren’t a smoker you will still be able to smell if they have been having a good old tuffle in the cab or not

As an ex heavy smoker (25 years ago) I nipped it in the Bud when I started here 18 months ago. The night trunkers used to smoke in the cab, I could smell it & there used to be tobacco all over the place where one of them used to roll his ‘Money Burning Cancer Sticks’.

I’ve got my bedding in the cab & usually stay out 1 or 2 nights a week, so why should I have to put up with the Filthy Habit :imp:

I did start a thread on the subject a few months ago & got advised to use Nuetradol Air Spray & it works a treat, they don’t actually smoke in her any more but they stand out side & have a quick puff & of course the ‘Stinky Smell’ is on their clothes that transfers to the Bedding & seat ,a couple of sprays & the windows open for ‘400’ miles :unamused: usually gets rid of it.

If terms and conditions are good enough then only the real thickos risk losing the job over it.

Only a couple of half wits where i work risk the job, they will be out if caught.
