My mate just bought an electric ■■■, it glows red and looks like smoke, you have to charge the battery and fill it with chemicals. How is that good for the environment?

I’m a non smoking tramper driver and it really pee’s me off when drivers smoke in the truck when i’m off duty.
I suffer from an allergy to smoke and ash,if someone goes to light up next to me,i apoligise to them that i’m not being ignorant but i’m off as i just know that within a couple of minutes i’ll be off sneezing and coughing.

Seems like you are in the wrong job mate, how do you go on when you have to find the forklift driver in the smoke shelter?

I’m not in the wrong job at all MATE. I don’t go anywhere near smoke shelters and funny enough I can’t remember ever having to goto a shelter to get a forklift driver. Their are quite a few drivers at our depot who don’t smoke and report drivers who smoke in non smokers trucks. After all why should another human being inflict his habit on someone else? That’s just selfish behaviour to me.

Well a very simple search on the internet and this was the first thing that turned up… http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/123/1/e74 …I couldn’t be bothered to read it all, but the general gist is smoke “odour” is referred to as ‘thirdhand smoke’ and can be harmful. And really its a simple reason…

Odour is caused by molecules that settle on a surface and are then disturbed and tossed back into the air for people to breathe. The air and smoke is made up of molecules which have a weight and this weight causes some of the smoke to settle into fabrics or onto surfaces, hence the odour. All you’ve got to do is go and hit a fabric seat (office chairs are generally best) and watch the crap that comes off of them.

I feel sure the ‘agency’ or is it agencie’s you are signed up with provide you with loads of work but maybe that work is all the shifts that don’t coincide with anyone else that you can find some kind of silly fault with :laughing: :laughing: :laughing: Think about it :laughing: :laughing: :question:

Well we just would’ve walked out of the pub wouldn’t we? I’m not saying everyone should stop smoking, but just like many things, there’s a time and a place for it. I don’t report people for smoking in trucks as I just go and get another one. But as I said, why should people like me who don’t smoke have to put up with the foul stench of it just because you couldn’t be bothered to time your ■■■ breaks properly? Almost all the guys where I work do it fine, and we have about 500 drivers on our books. It’s only a few people who do smoke so it’s not really a problem for me. As I’ve said before…I’m sure you’d have a problem if I started tossing myself off in a truck and then you had to drive it after me…you’d give it the whole “it’s disgusting and could screw up my health blah blah blah”. I don’t want to criticise every post, I’m just someone who stands up for themselves because other people in this industry can’t be bothered. You lot seem to think all I do is moan for the simple fact that when I do moan it does cause a reaction, but actually I do post a lot of light hearted stuff, but it just goes un-noticed.

AND…people also assume I’m a lot more stressed than what I am.

BTW, if I started smoking I’d get cancer and stuff…but if I continue to play “with the old boy”, that’s actually healthy…but I’ll admit, I do have a very high ■■■ drive, to the point I broke my banjo string about 3 weeks ago :frowning:

I don’t smoke and nor do I like ■■■ smoke, but in the grand scheme of things a bit of ■■■ smoke is not going to kill me, just like a bit of exhaust smoke from all the vehicles as I’m walking through town won’t kill me either, so I deal with it and just get on with my life. Perhaps you could try doing the same and quit being such a drama queen. :bulb:

I’ve been reading this post and it made me think back to when I started in this game, when drivers were men and any talk of handing the keys back for this that and the other would have resulted in being told to “Lick em and stick em.” (for the younger drivers that means your services are no longer required) I remember the first time that a driver ever came in to complain about a smoky cab and the looks on the other driver’s and TM’s faces was something special. This was back when if you didn’t smoke it was considered that there was something wrong with you :smiley: .

Anyway, my point is this, have we really gone from being proper fellas (smokers or not) to being obsessed with wiping cabs down with ■■■■■■■ wet wipes and refusing to drive motors cos of the smell of ■■■■■. ■■■■■■■ man up a bit chaps!!!

People smoke in trucks, which they know is illegal and when they’re caught, they moan! People speed, which they know is illegal, and again, when they’re caught, they moan!
