Smoking in trucks

word of warning councils officals in rochester strood area ar taking pics of drivers smoking in their cabs and send fix pens out to the bosses.some of our guys have had been issued with them and had to pay up.im not a smoker but its up to u guys at the end of the days is it worth the fine and ur health

I get rather loud when drinking so it was the smoking ban which made me stop going to the pub as its not nice for women and children out shopping in town listening to me howling at seagulls while outside having a ■■■ and most embarassing for me remembering the next day.

I still go out but very seldom and even non smokers who used to go out with me end up in my house or theirs drinking and smoking in front of their kids or mine.

Thing is before this ban we would never really drink or smoke in front of the weans and I guess its now happening everywhere going by the pubs that are shutting.

As far as the original post is concerned, this guys at the wind ups as nobody is that annoying without having a permanent sore face surely.

I imagine that the breweries must be hopping mad about it, and as they (and the tobacco companies) have always aligned themselves with the Tories anyway, they will be making huge contributions to them to fund the 2010 election campaign aka “the foregone conclusion”.

I believe the ban is only for an experimental period anyway and the incoming Cameron government will not continue with it.

I’m a non-smoker, but I cant see why it’s going to bother anybody if a driver smokes in his cab if hes on his own. I dont see how it’s going harm the health of any other driver of the vehicle if it’s been smoked in.

I can accept there being objections if the truck was doubled manned. Obviously that does affect your health from passive smoking. The same argument used to ban ■■■■ in pubs etc.

What I’d like an answer too though is if it’s legal from a traffic cops point of view to smoke & drive, then why is it they bust you for eat or drinking (soft drinks!!!) & driving.
Why is a eating a bannna more dangerous than smoking a ■■■ ?

ok im a non smoker and never have smoked.

i detest smoking and people smoking near me but there’s nothing i can do about so i dont get het up about it its just one of those things

im very lucky cos the 10 years ive been on the road ive never had a vehicle that has belonged to a smoker before me. when i was on the agency i used to get smokers vehicles but at the start of a shift plenty of freshner and open all windows for 20 mins normally sorts it.

one of the worst things and really annoying is getting to my vehicle after an agency driver has done a night shift in it and he has been smoking left ash all over and made no attempt to get rid of the smell. thats just plain inconsiderate.

when i did an induction at asda they said they dont like it and you are not allowered to do it but if you do just make sure you tidy up and get rid of the smell at the end of your shift. they also said that there is the problem drivers moan about smoking but leave a cab stinking of their fish and chip dinner.

now pubs and clubs… to me the no smoking ban is great when i come home i dont stink and any non smoker will tell you about the smell but i suppose smokers dont notice it. also the next day i feel loads better instead of groggy.

see if ivebeen at an agency job a while and get to know the guys who drive what lorry, like the last time i was at fife council i had one of the guys motors who actually takes some pride in it, spotless outside and inside and hes a non smoker so i think that was the only time i havnt smoked in a motor but tbh i was working on the site next to the landfill so could always stop for a smoke every 5 mins if i wanted.

if i do smoke in a vehicle i wont leave ash anywhere in the cab (its always flicked out the window) and i always have the window fully down and blow the smoke outside.
there is a few companies i go to that i know all the drivers smoke and the company knows this and doesnt really bother.

if im around alot of non smokers ill usually walk away from them to have a smoke or ill usually ask if they mind if i have one,
ive been double manned with a few companies and im always asked by the drivers if i mind them having a smoke, now bein a smoker i dont mind because i usually have a few.

i do respect folks decisions not to smoke, tbh i wish i wasnt doing it but hey things happen, mainly uni and the wacky stuff haha

steverospa:
When will smoking in trucks and cars be band like useing a phone etc.
Has any body been dun for smoking in a truck yet or is it a law that no body d bothers about.
I might start taking pictures my self and reporting them. ( Steve non smoker)

Don’t take my picture, As a smack in the gob often offends.
What a prat.

i was thinking the other day which i stopped due to my head hurting.but before i did i was wondering now that our trucks are our workplaces and we are not allowed to smoke what about the travelling sales people who sit in their cars and smoke i mean they treat them as workplaces so really all car drivers should be banned as well.

well i know what i mean

The attitude that godzy has is to me (non-smoker) very reasonable and polite. I recently double manned a wagon, the driver asked nicely if I minded(it was his wagon) I said I didn’t mind and we kept yhe windows open. Result was that the job kept going.

yea theres no point in being a {zb} about it, its only nice to ask, if they smoke aswell then bonus, if not and they do mind then you just have one on your break or something.

Our boss has the most sensible attitude I’ve come across. We have to do a bit of wagon-sharing, so she’s sorted it so that the smokers have one set of trucks and the non-smokers another. Works for us.

are you the very first guy to get rejected by friendsreunited due to lack of…■■■■■■! :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp:

as a lifelong smoker up until 2 years ago when I stopped to stay alive a bit longer, my mum dad and brother all died from smoking. I was brought up in a pub and smoking was the normal thing and promoted by Marlboro Man and Rita Hayworth.

I miss smoking and am against the smoking ban, especially when people have to stand outside the pub and smell like a wet dog. But as I drive up and down the roads of Britain and Europe and see a driver leaning against his truck or getting out of the seat to walk around. I only have one thought about them,

What a prat!!

Wheel Nut:
my mum dad and brother all died from smokin

At risk of sounding insensitve, has anybody actually died of the result of smoking ?

I cant believe the mentality of some people.
taking pictures of people smoking in the cab.
Does this bloke not do anything while driving along apart from taking his hands off the wheel to change gear.
Does he not have a drink, eat something or do anything come to that whilst driving.Because surely this is just as dangerous in your eyes
I’d hate to drive along for 4 1/2 hrs without putting anything in my mouth.
like others have said get a life and leave others to do a job that is getting harder by the day with more and more regulations put on them without fellow drivers grassing them up.

Deleted, posted in wrong place

OK. I take your point, smoking related diseases or simply blocked up.
