Smoking in the cab?

Wasn’t it introduced to make virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces in England smokefree. A smokefree ensures a healthier environment, so everyone can socialise, relax, travel, shop and work free from secondhand smoke. If you are alone in the cab don’t see a problem because you are not inhaling - topic seems to have gone of rails - it now seems to be the smell of the cab be it a smoker or unhygienic colleague

Both I & my wife smoked for 40-odd years, then stopped overnight. Best move I’ve ever made. The worst thing is that since giving up, I’ve realised just how badly we, our home, our car and my lorry used to smell.

I chain smoke in my den/office but rarely smoke anywhere else in the house. I actually enjoy standing out on the patio in all weathers (even -5c) for a chuff.

My office IS an ashtray, even I couldn’t bear it. So, I rigged up a huge charcoal filter & computer case fan that hydroponics enthusiasts use to kill the strong & pungent smell of ‘tomatoe’ plants. Now it’s the nicest, freshest smelling room in the house.

It’s the £money cost of it all that will one day force me to stop. I’m spending £80 a month. Now that there’s very little smuggling in from France/Belgium I have to rely on an old retired couple in the village who holiday abroad 8x a year & keep the village in cheap, duty free tobacco. When they get to old to travel I don’t know what I’ll do?

Buy one of those electronic ones, to keep as an alibi, then if your reported, just tell them it was an electronic one…tell every prospective employer you are a non smoker, then you wont be DISCRIMINATED AGAINST, for being a smoker, what a wimp, what sort of excuse has he for not allowing smokers to work for him, if he employs smokers, he can always tell them he/the law, doesnt allow smoking in the work place, then its entirely down to the driver. Myself, i smoke, in the cab, out of the cab, windows open though, but on a day off, would never leave my bedding in the cab anyway, as its a good excuse to take it home and wash it, and judging by some peoples bedding, it smells worse than the nicotine from a ciggie, there really are some dirty ■■■■■■■■ out there, then tell other drivers, i dont allow smokers in my cab…yeah right mate, Aniother annoyance, are those smelly things that blow, the horrible spray, right into/across my face, so the first thing i do when i get in a truck, is take out the name board ( dont want anyone calling me by the stupid name thats there, and throw the smelly battery operated smelly under the bunk ( unless its locked ) then it goes out the window, along with other various bits that either shouldnt be there, or that get in my way/view, and that includes the fresnel lense…sorry,

Reckon you’ve just answered your own question bud, if he doesn’t want smokers then that’s up to him, a bit o.t.t. admittedly, but he’s the boss of his own motors so he can do what the hell he wants, and you have just admitted what would be done if he did employ a smoker. And he’s a wimp eh?.. have a read of my last post on this thread
Edited your post as I know you must be on a wind up, reckon you would have walking difficulties if you really behaved like that in other driver’s motors.

Spotted rob…

Only spotted cos I think you and me have been here before  …and you aint getting me twice! :sunglasses:

A couple of years ago i set a bloke on who swore on his kids lifes that he would not smoke in our trucks,
so of he goes with a brand new Volvo F16 Globetrotter with in days i had a picture on my desk of this bloke smoking in the cab whilst sat at a junction
then he started trying to fiddle his hours when he was confronted with the evidence he just left,
and i consider a liar (tell them you dont smoke when you do brigade) unemployable as the will just try and bullshine there way through life

Rob, i am a nice person really, and i do respect other drivers equipment, after all, when i was a proper driver ( full timer ) i would like drivers to treat my truck, as i would theirs, and for the most, they did, so really it was a wind up, like so many of my posts, sorry i couldnt get you a second time, but i sure as hell am gonna try…ha ha …good luck

shytot, gis a job, i promise not to smoke in your new trucks, but i will drink and spill lots of lager all over the dashboard etc, oh and i will only fiddle my hours if you dont pay me enough money,

I smoked 20-40 per day sometimes even more, I smoked for what must of been some 30yrs maybe longer, I used to always smoke in the cab, even after they brought in the ban, But i would do my best to hide it, ie clean any ash, never use the ashtrays and have the window open for at least 30mins before returning to the yard,

I some 3yrs ago gave up smoking partly for health reasons but mainly the fiancial costs
Within a very short time,
I realised just how diminished my sense of smell and taste had diminished due to smoking , because those two senses return to normal within a very short time after you stop smoking

Now i cannot stand the smell of stale ciggarette smoke,I can easly tell a smoker from a non smoker in a que , it’s impregnated on their clothes, skin & hair on their breath. all of which you can’t smell when you are a smoker, I won’t allow anyone to smoke in my car or home,I wouldn’t have an issue with driving a truck after a smoker had been using it, providing it didn’t stink of stale smoke and had a overflowing ash tray plus ask on the floor , if it did stink to high heaven i would refuse to drive it

Absolutely right, Tommy. I reckon if people realised just how badly they smelt, they would be embarrassed into giving up. I had a bit of a health scare which prompted me to give up, but I must admit, the price of the things had a bearing on it.

I sometimes reflect on the irony of a passionate non smoker berating smokers about the smell etc of ciggys before jumping into their car and quite happily pump carcinogens (sp) out of an exhaust pipe that sits at the same height as a kiddies face or a pushchair.

Just a thought.
