I hope this is a good place to resurrect this old thread.
Is it still in force? There is a thread about smoking on the US forum about the subject and I quoted the ban to them wondering how they would feel about it. One response so far is that it is no more in the UK. Is he correct?
of course it is still in force
they are currently trying to bring in a law to stop the sale of cigarettes to anyone born after a certain date
Is it enforced in lorry cabs and company cars.
to be fair it depends on the company. one i worked at turned a blind eye provided you didnt leave tobacco/ash all over the floor/dash. I have also worked for company that turned a blind eye to vapes but not cigarettes. However im sure both companies would of shown you the door if you got caught either out on the road or by the other staff
I reckon so, at £2,500 fine for the TM he would have been very encouraged to make sure it was adhered to, so you are saying that the law still stands obviously?
It will be news to my friends in the US, at least one of whom reckons it was repealed as far as lorry cabs were concerned. I didn’t think so but thought I would check.
one of the daily checks was to make sure the no smoking sticker was present probably in an effort for the tm/compayto escape the fine
I grew up in a 60-80 a day Father and 40 a day Mother household. My Dad had smoked from age 14 if not earlier.
More or less all my school peers smoked and the teachers sometimes even all together during lessons. It was considered unusual if we didn’t.
At around age 14 I tried smoking of my parents’ cigs left lying around the house.Just made me cough and feel nauseous.Told my Mum she just laughed.I was one of the only ones in my whole family who never smoked from that time. But probably smoked more cigs and cigars passively than many modern day smokers. To this day prefer cigar smoke to those awful chemical vape things.
they need to bring back the birch for anyone caught smoking in public with a reward system in place if you see someone smoking or vaping and get a photo of them “who is this man?” back page of every newspaper for the images . .
It varies from state to state here in the US. I live in the state on New Hampshire and smoking in a vehicle is allowed unless there are people 18 or under in the vehicle. Also prohibited in any government owned vehicle. The company I drove for allowed smoking in certain trucks then banned smoking in all of them.
Lots of staff at stores I deliver to smoke in the stock room, I say sorry I can’t put the cages in there and leave them outside much to their disgust
Worst place I would have thought, thinking of all the flammable material in there.
When the smoking ban came in, it was rather refreshing to not have a stinking pile of clothes needing washed from just going to the pub for an hour.
