Smart motorways, again

Passing on the inside is not illegal as long as you don’t move to lane two after the undertake I think.

oh so you’re not allowed to leave lane 1 until when■■? Until you get to your junction? For the next 10 seconds? For a mile? That’s bs buddy I’m sorry.

Missing the point? Em, yeah, I think so.

if ypu make it obvious then its an illegal undertake…if you dont make it obvious then its a legal undertake which makes the plobber in lane 2 guilty of lane hogging and careless driving.

That would stand up in court? You say that as if it’s a fact. Not saying you’re wrong, just wondering.

Cancel that last question. I’ve just worked out (yes, I know I’m a bit slow) what you were saying.

Broken-down Volvo is crushed in lorry crash on 'smart motorway' | Daily Mail Online

I still reckon my “don’t use live lane hard shoulder unless you have to” - is a good idea.

If there are four lanes, and I’m pottering along in lane 2 - what’s the harm??

Ask the line of cars and trucks sat behind you getting ■■■■■■ off, while you’re ‘‘pottering’’ in your famous ‘‘instrument of death’’ :unamused: … turning the 4 lane Mway back to a 3 lane M.way :unamused: , those who have to either undertake you or zig zag around you.
Professional driver my arse. :unamused:

So you think risking a 50mph ram of a parked or broken down car in Live Hard Shoulder lane 1 - is a better thing to do than do 50mph in Lane 2 when there are bloody four lanes, two CLEAR LANES for other impatient road users to get past the slow artic if they need to?

One only has to look at the liveries on all those artics steaming past me in lane three - as to “who’s the REAL professional drivers” or not!

Rush Rush Rush… Job ‘n’ Knock mentality… Oops! Up my mate’s arse, whack into another “paid by the day” driver… “Gotta get past this slowcoach being paid by the hour, something I’d never stoop to because I’d be better off, but can’t quite grasp the reasoning of others as to why…”

Zig zag overtaking? - “Driving without due care and attention” I would call it. :unamused:

Three lane motorways - didn’t actually need to be turned into four lane motorways in the first place. If I contribute positively to road safety by my actions, I can certainly live with the lack of negative consequence, such as no deaths nor injuries involving collisions with my vehicle - ever. :imp:

Undertaking at speed is illegal. Justifying it by one’s incapablity to overtaking on the RIGHT - doesn’t cut it.

“Lane Hogging” (by artics) is when it is not legally possible to pass the vehicle doing the hogging: Eg. Sitting in lane 2 of a three lane motorway where other artics cannot use lane three to overtake. OR (something I see often on the A34 or M11) - Sitting in lane 2 of 2 - because you can’t possibly bear to sit behind the fully-laden slowcoach on the uphill stretches, can’t be bothered to pull back in when a supermarket truck is coming up, or decide that the already huge string of cars up your arse in lane two - “don’t matter, because I’m on job ‘n’ Knock”.

Pretty much spot on Winseer.

Yep, that’s about my pace. Maybe just a bit slower, but I get there in the end.

If there are four lanes, and I’m pottering along in lane 2 - what’s the harm??

Where’s the harm indeed. Where’s the harm in someone driving at 15mph in a 30 limit in perfect conditions? Where’s the harm in the driver who sits in the right hand lane at a roundabout with his left hand indicator on waiting for someone to let him in? Where’s the harm in the person who straddles two parking slots? Where’s the harm in the person who drives at night with his rear fog lights on so he can be seen? Where’s the harm in the guy who parks in the disabled bay 'cos “I’ll only be a minute”?

I’ll tell you where the [zb] ing harm is; it’s against the rules of the road! If you can’t follow basic [zb] ing instruction then get the [zb] off the road and leave it to people who can do! :imp:

HERE HERE!

The basic instructions of the road being “Obey the rules, and take a huge risk against all common sensibilities” - OR - "Think outside the box once in a while, and over-rule in your own mind these fools who think turning a now part-time hard shoulder into a live lane at the drop of a hat (or suddenly illuminated gantry sign) is a good idea that won’t at least sometimes - get people killed.

“Part Time Hard Shoulders” - ARE dangerous and people ARE dying as a consequence of them. Pro Drivers can lessen the risks by “choosing less time in the part-time lane 1” than normal highway code rules otherwise dictate to “move over to the left at the earliest opportunity”. Driving in Lane 2 and being a refusenik of “Part Time Lane One” - does NOT constitute a legal offence, including “Lane Hogging”. There are four lanes on these stretches after all. At least a clear lane three for any faster LGVs to use to get past a slow 50mph mover in Lane 2 who’s refusing to use “Live Hard Shoulder” lane One. :bulb:

I rest my case.

Winseer:
I rest my case.

Case dismissed. Of course they’re dangerous. So is driving a vehicle or being on the road in one or near the road outside one etc. Risk vs. Reward.
